When NPF's Covering Workplace Mental Health fellows were in D.C. this month, they visited the National Press Club for the annual Carolyn C. Mattingly Award for Mental Health Reporting ceremony, sponsored by The Luv u Project, to celebrate the 2025 Mattingly winners, Mackenzie Mays of Bloomberg Law and Jon Schuppe of NBC News.

The pair won for their investigative series, “Pregnancy Behind Bars,” which reveals the systemic failure to provide adequate maternal and mental health care to pregnant women in jails across the U.S.
