This week, AUL’s Steve Aden joined Liberty University School of Law Professor Eric Enlow for an energetic and productive debate on whether women who seek abortion should be prosecuted.

Steve made the case that the pro-life movement has already shown it can achieve the national protection of preborn children without resorting to jailing women. By 1967, all 50 states had laws against abortion, and the movement is positioned to do so again.

Students from Liberty University School of Law’s The Federalist Society brought energy and thoughtful insights to the conversation, with questions that extended well into the evening.

We’re grateful for the strong student engagement at Liberty University and look forward to welcoming the next generation of pro-life advocates.

MISSING THE MARK: AUL's Senior Counsel Clarke Forsythe wrote an article in Christianity Today laying out why abortion "abolitionists'" goal of prosecuting women misses the mark.

"History and experience have never demonstrated that prosecuting women is necessary to effectively enforce abortion law...

The aim of abortion law should be to prevent elective abortion as much as humanly possible...

ON CAMPUS: AUL's Carolyn McDonnell spoke to University of Virginia School of Law students this week on "Legal Advocacy for Pro-Life Policy," showing how a law degree can be used in the pro-life field to shape public policy.

In her lecture, she covered the current status of abortion law at the federal level, her amicus briefs filed on behalf of Members of Congress, and how her federal policy work actually moves the needle towards protecting life.

Students were engaged and asked strong questions, including how the movement is responding to pro-abortion ballot initiatives and advancing legal protections for mothers and unborn children.

The FDA’s update last night pushes its abortion-drug review to March 2027, with no new restrictions before then.

“Americans United for Life will continue to hold the FDA and greater administration accountable for their delays. We recognize the confirmations of Attorney General Todd Blanche, CDC Director Erica Schwartz and the nomination of Dr. Heidi Overton to fill the role of FDA Commissioner as steps in the right direction, hoping for swift action to correct Biden-era mistakes following the review’s conclusion."

Meet Brooke Paz, Senior Legal Fellow at Americans United for Life!

Brooke is a rising third-year J.D. candidate at the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law, where she serves as President of the Republican Law Association.

She is returning to AUL after previously supporting the organization through legal research, policy analysis, and communications on federal and state pro-life advocacy.

Before law school, Brooke worked as a Legal Intern for the Arizona House of Representatives, a Paralegal at Judicial Watch, a Government Affairs Coordinator at Students for Life Action, and a Staff Assistant in the White House Office of Cabinet Affairs.

She founded the first pro-life student organization at California State University, Fullerton, and worked with Options United, supporting women and families through client communications and marketing.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in Communications and Public Relations, with a minor in Political Science, from California State University, Fullerton, graduating summa cm laude.

Brooke brings proven pro-life advocacy, government experience, and strong research and communications skills to AUL’s work defending human life.

AUL's Litigation Counsel, Carolyn McDonnell, was quoted in Bloomberg Law highlighting the constitutional crisis that shield laws have caused between those states with pro-life protections and those with none.
