FEA is honored to announce Kurt L. Schmoke as this year's Fritz Kaufmann Award recipient, who will be honored at FEA's Scholar Gala this Thursday, November 19th.

Throughout his distinguished career in education, government, and law, President Schmoke has championed greater opportunity and stronger communities. Before joining the University of Baltimore as President in 2014, he served for 12 years as Mayor of Baltimore, was the Baltimore State's Attorney, and held several leadership positions at Howard University, including Interim Provost and Dean of the School of Law.

As an attorney, President Schmoke has provided countless hours of pro bono legal services to charitable organizations, and is the recipient of the President's National Literacy Award for his efforts to promote adult literacy.

Through decades of public service, President Schmoke has advanced education, literacy, civil rights, fair housing, public health, and economic development. As a Rhodes Scholar who pursued graduate studies at the University of Oxford, he also understands firsthand the lasting value of an international educational experience.

We look forward to honoring President Schmoke at the 2026 FEA Sweet 16 Scholar Gala!

We are SO thrilled to welcome our new Fundraising Manager, Madison Pastrick, to the FEA team!

Madison will take the helm of our fundraising initiatives and donor relations, ensuring FEA’s success into the future. As we reach the milestone of $5 million awarded since our inception in 2010, we’re focused more than ever on growing our capacity for giving. We could not be more excited to expand our team and find even more ways to support our FEA scholars, before, during, and after study abroad.

Please join us in welcoming Madison to our team!
