Workers having a seat at the table is our cup of tea 🍵

The newly-formed Sudanese Tea Sellers Union just created a partnership with the Governor of Khartoum state to provide tea sellers with 3,500 kiosks to work in, free of taxes and fees. The union says this agreement will give these women workers a safer, more secure way to earn a living.

"If the Thai government ratifies ILO Convention No. 193, it will lead to the creation of laws protecting platform workers in compliance with the convention's principles, which means fair pay and benefits. This is the riders' highest hope, because the situation has only gotten worse since platform work began in Thailand 10 years ago." Phisut Samutkhota, President, สหภาพไรเดอร์ - Freedom Rider Union 🏍️

The economic and personal gains workers win through their unions are, for many, how democracy feels real. The changes workers make when they use their collective power go far beyond their workplace.

By turning shared concerns into shared action, workers build democratic unions and institutions that represent their interests at work and in society, ones that can outlast any one campaign or leader.

These workers leave behind a better starting point for the people who come next.

Transforming a whole sector is difficult, but with the power of their union, delivery drivers in Thailand are taking the next step toward making decent work in the platform economy a reality. Members of the Freedom Riders Union met with lawmakers urging passage of ILO Convention 193—the first-ever global treaty on fairness, dignity, and protection for digital app-based workers—proving that with worker power, change is possible 💪🏽

Swipe to learn how the union is now pushing for progress on the road to ratification 🚗

We don’t just support worker rights — we help workers turn those rights into reality.

Because when workers have the power to improve their own lives, democracy is stronger, economies grow and society becomes more just for everyone.
