Washington, D.C. — once home to the NHDSC — has the 7th largest hot dog market in the country, and a dog that is entirely its own thing.



The half-smoke: half pork, half beef, coarsely ground, spiced up, and served with chili, mustard, and onions.

🌭 Always 'dress the dog,' not the bun.

🌭 Condiments go: wet first, then chunky, then shredded cheese, then spices.

🌭 No utensils. Ever. This is not a steak.

🌭 No ketchup after age 18. (We don't make the rules. We do make the rules.)

🌭 No cloth napkins. Paper only.

🌭 Five bites max. Seven for a foot-long.

Think about that for a second. That's grandparents and grandkids at the same cookout. That's the kid at their first baseball game and the retiree who's been to a thousand of them. That's every July 4th in every backyard, park, and stadium in this country.
