Heading to college is an exciting milestone, but did you know that disability rights and accommodations work differently after high school? Students with disabilities still have important legal protections in college, but the process for receiving accommodations changes, and students take on more responsibility for requesting the supports they need. Understanding these differences before graduation can help students and families feel more prepared for the transition.

💙 Stronger connections start with trust, collaboration, and understanding!

Join PEATC in partnership with Norfolk Public Schools Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) and Parent Resource Center for Building Bonds, Breaking Barriers, and Engaging Families of Children with Disabilities, a FREE virtual workshop focused on strengthening family engagement in education.

Together, we'll explore practical tools and strategies to build trust, overcome barriers, and create more welcoming and inclusive environments for families. Participants will also learn ways to foster meaningful collaboration and make IEP meetings more student- and family-centered.

There's still time to register for "Understanding Special Education," a free virtual workshop hosted by PEATC in partnership with JBLE Langley School Liaison Program Manager, Terrilyn Williams!

Planning for life after graduation can bring lots of questions, but there are resources and opportunities to help students with disabilities explore their next steps!

Next Steps Day: Charting Your Path Beyond High School is a FREE event designed to help students with disabilities learn more about college, trade programs, and other educational opportunities after graduation.

Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with college and training representatives, meet community organizations, and participate in informative sessions focused on preparing for life after high school. Families are welcome to attend, too!

🔸Welcome all communication styles.

✨Turning 18 is an important milestone, bringing new rights, responsibilities, and decisions. For individuals with disabilities and their families, understanding what changes at adulthood and what support options are available can make this transition feel less overwhelming.

Join PEATC in partnership with The Arc of Greater Prince William and Prince William County Public Schools Parent Resource Center for a VIRTUAL session of "Turning 18 in Virginia: What Individuals with Disabilities Need to Consider!"

This workshop will help families better understand the legal, financial, medical, and educational decisions that come with turning 18 and explore important considerations for planning ahead.
