⚠️ Verizon wants to abandon landlines, aka plain old telephone service, in several Piedmont counties, including Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison and Rappahannock. This would literally cut off an essential life line for thousands of people living in rural areas who don’t have access to broadband or cell service. Even for people who do have broadband and cell service, many still use landlines for important purposes, including calling for help in emergencies and during power outages.
If this impacts you, tell the FCC you oppose the elimination of landlines by Verizon. Submit comments by Thursday, Sept. 10 on the FCC’s electronic comment filing system, or you can mail or hand deliver your comments.
To file electronically:
1. Go to https://www.fcc.gov/ecfs/filings/express
2. Enter the proceedings number: 26-227. Select the case from the drop-down.
3. Enter your name, email address and contact information in the designated fields.
4. Type or paste in your comment in the box and follow the prompts to review your comment and submit.
5. You're done!
✍️ Include in your comment how the discontinuation of landline service would directly impact you, as well as the lack of alternative service in your area, if applicable.
