A Message from St. Lucy: We Need Your Help to Save the Church
Our church is at risk of being shut down due to the Archdiocese of Detroit's restructuring plan. It is the only Croatian Catholic church and ethnic gathering place in Michigan, protected by church law, financially stable, and with an available Croatian priest.
St. Lucy Croatian Church is in danger of being shut down. This is our 100-year-old heritage in Detroit and the only Croatian Church gathering place for our community in Michigan! We need your help.
The single most important thing you can do: fill out the Archdiocese of Detroit’s survey before Friday, July 31, 2026, and select Option B, the only restructuring option that keeps St. Lucy open as a church with masses. The survey link and instructions are at the bottom of this email.
Whether you attend every week or haven't been in years, your voice matters. St. Lucy exists for the entire Croatian Catholic community in Michigan. And if you have family or friends who are part of our community, please pass this along to them.
What is going on?
The Archdiocese of Detroit (AOD) is restructuring its churches because of too many buildings, low attendance, priest shortages, financial challenges, and other factors. AOD priests have devised restructuring options within each district. Our St. Lucy falls into District #9. From the four Model Options (A, B, C and D), only option B retains St. Lucy as a church with masses.
