Coalition for a Better Wallingford

Coalition for a Better Wallingford We're a grassroots organization committed to building Healthy, Caring, Responsible Citizens.

• Education about the proper and legal ways to dispose of unwanted drugs is key to keeping them out of the hands of those who will abuse them. Toward this end we are distributing brochures supplied by the Department of Consumer Protection that explain the correct way to handle these drugs while using them, and proper disposal of unused afterwards.
• We are advocating for widespread training and d

istribution of NARCAN, a counteracting drug that can save the life of someone who is in an overdose state from op**te use.
• We are working to eliminate the drug paraphernalia from sight at local retail stores.
• We have started a professionally facilitated peer based support group called Hope and Support, to help parents understand the dangers and deal with drug abuse and addiction. It meets every Monday night at the Yalesville United Methodist Church from 7 to 8:30 PM. During Covid - Virtually.
• We are working to improve the relationship between the community and the school system to create a partnership to more effectively educate the kids about the science of addiction and the effects of drug abuse.
• We are working with town and state officials to support public policies that allow us to better control all aspects of this problem.
• We are speaking to organizations from around the state and throughout the country about ways to reduce and eliminate this problem of drug abuse.
• We are working with the Office of Healthcare Advocates to help residents protect your healthcare rights.

🌴HELP US BRING A TROPICAL PARADISE TO WALLINGFORD KIDS! 🌺

Wallingford families, The Coalition's Community Family Day 2026 is just around the corner, and this year’s theme is Tropical Paradise! 🍍🦜 We are working hard to make this the bright, joyful, and memorable event our local kiddos deserve, but we need a little help from our amazing community to make it all happen.

Our goal this year is big:
🎒 Pack the Packs: We want to ensure every single child who attends walks away with a brand-new book bag loaded with fresh school supplies.
🎁 The Carnival Tent: We want to surprise each kiddo with a large raffle gift to bring a massive smile to their face!

How you can help:
We’ve set up an Amazon Wish List packed with the exact school supplies, backpacks, and raffle prizes needed to pull this off. Shopping the list takes less than two minutes, and everything ships directly to our team!

Whether you can grab one box of pencils, a cool backpack, a major raffle prize, or decorations to help set the tone, every single item gets us closer to our goal. Let’s come together to make this year’s Community Day an unforgettable paradise for our kids!

Thank you so much for your continuous love, support, and generosity. We couldn’t do this without the incredible Wallingford community! 🌴✨

💡 Free Monthly Narcan Training Available! 💡

Did you know that the Coalition for a Better Wallingford offers free Narcan training every single month?

In just a short session, you can learn how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose and safely administer Naloxone (Narcan)—a life-saving tool that anyone can use.

Whether you are an individual wanting to be prepared, a local business, a civic group, or a faith-based organization, we are here to train you. No group is too small or too large:

👥 Flexible Group Sizes: We train anywhere from 1 individual to groups of up to 30 people.

💰 Cost: 100% Free.

📍 Convenient: We will work with you to find a time and location that fits your schedule.

An overdose can happen anywhere, but being equipped with the knowledge and tools to respond can save a life right here in our community.

🌸 What a blooming success! 🌸

We are still smiling after our May Flowers Party this past Saturday! A huge thank you to The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater New Haven (Ulbrich-Wallingford), Shakers & Bakers, Beaumont Farms, Wallingford Pizza House, The 99 Restaurant, the community members who donated supplies, our incredible volunteers, and every single person who came out to celebrate with us. We could not have done it without your participation. The energy was amazing!

Highlights of the day included:

🧁 Sweet Creations: Cookie and cupcake decorating (some of which actually made it home before being eaten!).
🎁 Mother’s Day Prep: Crafting beautiful handmade cards and flower gifts for all the special Moms out there.
🍕 Party Fuel: Fueling up on pizza before hitting the activities.
🏃‍♂️ Bounce Time: Tiring everyone out on the obstacle course bouncy inflatable!

A very special thank you to Kellie Kaminskas for joining us, sharing her time, and giving us a wonderful reading of her book, "Here With You". It was a highlight for kids and adults alike! 📚✨

Thank you all for making this day so memorable. We can't wait to see you next year!

💚 May is Mental Health Awareness Month! 💚
At the Coalition for a Better Wallingford, we believe that there is no health without mental health. This year’s national theme is "More Good Days, Together," and it serves as a powerful reminder that while everyone’s journey is unique, none of us have to walk it alone.

Mental health and substance use prevention go hand-in-hand. By fostering a supportive community, providing creative outlets for our youth, and encouraging open conversations, we can help create "more good days" for our families and neighbors.

How you can join us this month:
Be Seen in Green: Wear green throughout May to show your support and help reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.

Check In: Reach out to a friend, family member, or neighbor. A simple "How are you doing, really?" can make a world of difference.

Get Active: Mark your calendars for the KS4MH Miles for Mental Health 5K and Family Hike on June 14th! It’s a wonderful way to honor those we’ve lost and support local prevention efforts.

Prioritize You: Whether it’s through art, exercise, or quiet reflection, make time for the things that support your own well-being.

Let’s work together to make Wallingford a place where everyone feels seen, heard, and supported.

💐Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at the Coalition! 🌸

Today, we celebrate the incredible women who lead with love, strength, and grace. But our hearts are also full of gratitude for the dads, grandparents, and guardians who step up every day to fill the role of "Mom."
Whether you’re a biological mother, an adoptive parent, or a father pulling double duty, your dedication builds our community’s future. We see your hard work, your sacrifices, and the endless love you pour into the next generation.

Today we honor:
The Moms - For your unwavering support and wisdom.
The Dads - For stepping into the gap with heart and resilience.
The Village - For everyone who nurtures, protects, and guides.
You are the backbone of our families and the heart of our mission. Enjoy your special day—you’ve more than earned it! 💖

04/29/2026

Today, April 29, is National Fentanyl Awareness Day. This day is a critical reminder of the risks posed by illegally made fentanyl and the importance of protecting our community, especially our youth.

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid up to 50 times stronger than he**in. Because it is often pressed into counterfeit pills made to look like legitimate prescription medications (like Oxy, Percocet, or Xanax), many people—particularly young adults—unknowingly consume it.

What you can do today:

Talk to your kids: Start an open, honest conversation about the dangers of "fake pills" and the fact that you can’t see, smell, or taste fentanyl.

Only take prescribed medication: Ensure all medications come directly from a licensed pharmacist.

Carry Naloxone (Narcan): This life-saving nasal spray can reverse an opioid overdose. It is safe, easy to use, and available without a prescription in many locations.

Spread the word: Share trusted resources to help educate your friends and neighbors.

Prevention works when we work together. Let’s keep our community safe, informed, and supported.
