March 29 is designated as National Vietnam War Veterans Day and is set aside to pay special tribute to the 9 million Americans who served during the Vietnam War era, to the 58,000 names memorialized on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., and to those who never received the recognition they deserved when they returned to America from war.

March 29, 1973, is the day U.S. Military Assistance Command, Vietnam was disestablished and the day the last U.S. combat troops departed Vietnam. Also on that day, Operation Homecoming was completed when the last of 591 U.S. prisoners were released and returned to the United States.

HAPPY 107th BIRTHDAY AMERICAN LEGION!!!

On March 15-17, 1919, war-weary members of the American Expeditionary Forces gathered in Paris for a “morale conference.” What is now known as the Paris Caucus would lead to the creation of what would become The American Legion.

On Dec. 20, 2019, the U.S. Space Force – the newest branch of the U.S. Armed Forces – was officially instituted.

We learned today of the passing of Ray Ross. He was a friend and member of this committee for many years; present at every event, Veterans Day, parades, services, and was a prominent figure at many many other events. To say he will be missed is an understatement! Rest in peace Ray.

National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day 2025.
American Legion Family members remember and honor the 2,403 Americans who were killed in the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on Dec. 7, 1941. The attack led to the United States declaring war on Japan and thus entering World War II. Each elected American Legion national commander visits Pearl Harbor on Pearl Harbor Day to pay respect.
