The Knights Templar is a Christian-oriented fraternal organization and an integral part of the Masonic Fraternity. Membership is open to Freemasons who profess a belief in the Christian religion. It is the third body within the York Rite of Freemasonry. The Order requires membership in a Lodge of Freemasons, a Chapter of Royal Arch Masons, and a Council of Royal & Select Masters. A Commandery of K
nights Templar confers the three Chivalric Orders culminating in the grade of Knight Templar. They are the Illustrious Order of the Red Cross, Order of Malta, and Order of the Temple. The Knights Templar exhibits a paramilitary structure and outlook on Masonry and is the only branch of Freemasonry that is a uniformed body. A Commandery of Knights Templar has 12 officers, in order of rank: Eminent Commander, Generalissimo, Captain General, Recorder, Treasurer, Prelate, Sr. Warden, Standard Bearer, Sword Bearer, Warder, and Sentinel.
