Hospice du Rhône® (HdR), located on the Central Coast of California, operates as a non-profit business league with the specific purpose of improving the business conditions of the grape growers and wine producers of Rhône variety wines and grapes throughout the world. We serve as an international vintners association, providing promotional and educational opportunities. Hospice du Rhône is not affiliated with any other charitable organization.

In memoriam: Thierry Sabon

Hospice du Rhône is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Thierry Sabon of Clos Du Mont Olivet.

A respected and acclaimed winemaker in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Thierry was a champion of his appellation and its historic old vines. His wines carried the character and history of the region he loved.

We were honored to welcome him to Hospice du Rhône Walla Walla in 2024, where he shared his wines as a seminar presenter for ‘Châteauneuf-du-Pape: Limitless Style with Authenticity’, moderated by Jeb Dunnuck, alongside his colleagues from Domaine de Marcoux and Domaine de Vieux Télégraphe.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and everyone at Clos du Mont-Olivet during this time.

The Rocks AVA in Oregon has managed to keep a relatively low profile, at least internationally, but its unique terroir, made entirely of basalt cobblestones, is producing first-rate wines with a hint of Côte Rotie. Roger Morris reports.
