Commanders Letter

Dear Members,

This past Thursday, May 21, 2026, Emerson J. Lones American Legion Post 13 conducted the election for Post Officers for the 2026–2027 calendar year. It is my pleasure to inform you of the incoming officers. The following officers were elected and will be leading American Legion Post 13:

Commander: Mark Bacon
Adjutant: Cheryl Purcell
First Vice: Chuck McCue
Second Vice: To Be Filled
Finance Officer: Stephen May
At-Large Voting Members (2): Matt Culipher and Bret McMahan
Appointed Positions:

Sergeant-at-Arms: Timothy Donnlley
Backup: Michelle Simmons
Service Officer: Nathan Weinbaum
These officers will be sworn in during our June meeting on June 18 at 7:00 PM. Please attend this meeting and show your support for our new officers.

I would also like to extend a very special thank you to those who were able to attend the May meeting and vote. God bless you, and I look forward to seeing you soon.

To all American Legion Post 13 Maryville members. There will be an events committee meeting on Wednesday May 27, at 6:00 PM at the post to discuss and plan the 250th event. Anyone that can make it needs to be there to share ideas and give input. This is a very important event and we need you there to help plan and do it right See you Wednesday!

A MESSAGE FROM THE COMMANDER
Commander’s Letter May 19, 2026

Dear Members,

Greetings my friends, we have a very busy week ahead of us at the Post and here in Blount County. We will elect new officers at the Post this coming Thursday. On Saturday, the United Veterans of Blount County will remember our fallen comrades at a Memorial Service at Rio Revolution Church on Lamar Alexander Parkway.

The United Veterans of Blount County will be hosting a reception beginning at 9:00 AM before the program begins at 10:00 AM. The guest speaker this year is Chris Edmonds. Please consider supporting this program for the families of our fallen comrades.

This coming Thursday, May 21 at 6:30 PM, we will eat and enjoy fellowship before we start our regular stated meeting at 7:00 PM. This is a very important meeting as we will be electing new officers to lead our Post for the coming year. Please make every effort possible to attend this meeting, as your vote and support are vital to the future of Post 13.
The following Legionnaires have been nominated for positions as of today. We will also be taking nominations on Thursday before the elections. If you or someone you know is interested in serving, please be present to make the nomination.
