Denial is a master at keeping us locked in the dark. In our hurts, habits, and hang-ups, we often build elaborate walls and turn off the lights, hoping that if we can’t see the mess, it isn’t there. This is why Principle 4 starts with an inventory.
Confession is not just telling God what happened; it’s finally daring to turn on the light ourselves. It’s sitting in that quiet, solitary space and admitting the raw truth to yourself before you ever say it out loud. That first spark of honesty, symbolized by this lone bulb in the darkness, is terrifying. But that light is also where the enemy loses his grip. If it's in the dark, it controls you. If it's in the light, you can begin to face it.
"This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all." — 1 John 1:5
Tonight, get alone with your inventory. Turn on a physical light. Agree with God that the darkness stops now.
