Billy the Kidden Rescue We provide TNR, kitten/cat trapping & socialization, feral assistance, limited re-homing, cat health Billy the Kidden Rescue began in the summer of 2013.

Our Mission at Billy the Kidden Rescue is to improve the lives of displaced cats and kittens and reduce feral cat populations in Hampton Roads by socializing outdoor-born & unwanted kittens for adoption into forever homes. Since its start, the rescue has saved countless cats and kittens mainly through its practice of TNR (trap, neuter, return).

Through TNR, we have significantly decreased the f

eral cat population and reduced the number of kittens born into an environment in which their chance of survival is slim and their suffering inevitable. Billy the Kidden Rescue is also a foster based rescue. Even with all our efforts to implement TNR, hundreds of kittens continue to be born outside every year. Whenever possible, we attempt to place kittens born to outdoor ferals in foster homes to be socialized and adopted into forever homes. We're the largest home based rescue on the East Coast and our extensive network of fosters enables us to break the cycle for hundreds of cats annually.

They're adorable, but they're also one of the most amazing tools in a cat's toolbox! 🧰

😽 Whiskers are more than twice as thick as ordinary cat hairs, and their roots extend about three times deeper into the skin.

😽 Kittens develop whiskers while still in the womb—before they even grow their fur!

😽 Cats have whiskers on the backs of their front legs, too. These special whiskers help them sense prey and navigate their surroundings.

There aren't many things cuter than a kitty's toe beans... but did you know they're also pretty amazing? 😻

🐾 Built-in shock absorbers!🐾
Those adorable little pads contain fatty tissue that helps cushion landings and absorb impact when cats jump and climb. They also help cats move quietly when they're stalking toys (or your ankles). 🎣

🐾 They can sweat!🐾
Unlike humans, cats only sweat through certain areas, including their paw pads. Ever notice tiny paw prints on the exam table at the vet? That's toe bean sweat!
Their paw pads also contain scent glands that leave behind their signature scent wherever they walk. 🐱

🐾 Super sensitive sensors!🐾
Toe beans are packed with nerve receptors that help cats detect pressure, texture, and vibrations. This helps them navigate their environment, hunt prey, and stay alert to potential danger.🚨

🐾 Bean color often matches fur color!🐾

🤰If you've ever been 9 months pregnant, you can probably relate! 😂

We're still on baby watch with our sweet mom-to-be, Indigo, and her expression says everything we need to know:

😒 "I'm uncomfortable."
😒 "I'm tired."
😒 "Can someone please get these kittens out already?"

Poor girl is carrying precious cargo and looking more than ready to be done with pregnancy! 💯

😻The good news? Once these babies arrive and are weaned, Indigo will be spayed and she'll never have to go through this again! ❤️

Until then, we're making sure this deserving mama has a safe place to rest, plenty of food, and lots of love while we wait for her little ones to make their grand entrance. 🐱🐱🐱🐱

💔Rescue is hard.💔

📝We share so many adorable kittens with you—our success stories, our happy endings, and the babies who find loving forever homes. But rescue isn't always sunshine, rainbows, and playful kittens.

Yesterday, this tiny girl was found at one of our colony sites barely clinging to life.😿

🚨She was severely dehydrated, dangerously underweight, and so weak she hardly had the energy to move. Right now, she's receiving around-the-clock supportive care, including fluids, B12, syringe feeding, and all the love and attention we can give her. 🫶

We're cautiously hopeful, but she's not out of the woods yet.🥺

🙏 Please keep this little fighter in your thoughts as she battles for her life. We're doing everything we can to help her win.

Life is incredibly hard for community kittens. They're born into a world filled with dangers—hunger, disease, predators, weather, and human neglect. Add this extreme summer heat, and the odds become even more stacked against them.😔

Every queen deserves a castle...and Bella is ready to find hers! 🏰

👑At 9 years young, Bella is a sweet, affectionate girl with a big personality and an even bigger heart. She's looking for a forever home where she can be the queen she was born to be! 😻

👑Bella gets along with other cats—as long as they respect her personal space and understand that she's in charge! She also does well with dogs and children, making her a great fit for many different families.🐶🐱👶

👑If you're searching for a cuddle bug, look no further! Bella loves being close to her people and will happily curl up beside you, on you, or even under your head when it's time to relax. She'll be your constant companion, always ready to share snuggles and affection. 🤗

👑Bella was declawed on her front paws by a previous owner, but that doesn't stop her from giving furniture a playful pawing now and then. She also has hyperthyroidism, which is well-managed with medication. At about 15 pounds, she's currently carrying a little extra fluff, but we're hopeful she'll slim down now that she's on a healthier routine.🙌🏼

These are the faces of the Cat Dads we are NOT celebrating today! 😹

🐈‍⬛Meet the neighborhood tomcats—driven by hormones, roaming for miles, getting into fights, spraying everything in sight, and leaving a trail of kittens behind them.💔

And honestly? It's not their fault.

🐈An unneutered male cat's biological mission is simple: find females and make more kittens. Lots and lots of kittens.🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱

Meanwhile, the mama cats pay the price.
🐾 Pregnancy after pregnancy
🐾 Raising litter after litter
🐾 Searching for food while nursing hungry babies
🐾 Facing illness, injury, predators, and harsh weather
🐾 Watching kittens struggle to survive outdoors

🐈‍⬛One unneutered male can father dozens—sometimes hundreds—of kittens over his lifetime. Those kittens grow up and have kittens of their own, creating an endless cycle that overwhelms shelters, rescues, and communities.
