Today, we honor Juneteenth, a day to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States. We recognize the resilience and contributions of Black Americans, whose histories and stories are an essential part of our communities.

As we work to protect and restore our waterways, we remain committed to fostering a community where all people feel welcome in the stewardship of our shared natural resources.

One day recently bees, galore, were happily buzzing and dropping down for quick sips of water from the little pond full of blooming water lilies in Dr. Tarek and Diana Zaki's Alanton yard. The bees not only have a pond but an array of hand painted bee houses and fruit tree and berry blooms and native flowers to nectar on.

The Zaki's yard is one of seven native gardens in Alanton and nearby neighborhoods featured on LRNow's Native Garden Tour from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday, June 25. See more in Nature Notes: https://www.lynnhavenrivernow.org/naturenotes/a-botanical-wonderland-in-alanton-is-for-the-bees/

Most people love turtles and even other animals find these slowing moving creatures that don't run away fascinating. As if he were a hunting dog, Atticus points a nonchalant slider in Tony Arnold's yard off of Holly Road. And it's hard to tell who is more interested in whom in Randy Keel's Wolfsnare yard, Angelle, the kitty, or a curious box turtle.🐢🐈🐕

Celebrate Global Wind Day!🌬

Responsible offshore wind means cleaner air, healthier communities, and sustaining ecosystems globally from the threat of climate change. Less pollution from fossil fuels means we can all breathe a little easier.

📽The National Wildlife Federation's short film shows how projects across the U.S. are being developed responsibly, with wildlife and habitats prioritized every step of the way. Full video: https://ow.ly/YAxQ50Xbevm

Here in Virginia, the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project is slated to finish construction this year and will provide enough energy for 600,000 homes.
