Friends of the Virginia Beach Historic Houses

Friends of the Virginia Beach Historic Houses The Friends provide support to enhance exhibits, programs and events for the historic houses owned and operated by the City of Virginia Beach.

The Friends of the Virginia Beach Historic Houses, Inc. is a volunteer civic organization of over 100 citizens in our city that is formally certified as a public charity under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Friends organization traces its origin to the combining of the three (3) independent Friends organizations for the Francis Land House, the Adam Thoroughgood House, and the

Lynnhaven House in March, 2011. Actually, many members of the current Friends organization trace their support to the predecessor organizations back in the mid-1980s with some members even having family relationships tracing back into the 19th Century. As a private, non-profit organization, members of the Friends are committed to preserving and showcasing Virginia Beach’s vital and critical heritage through our support of programs, exhibits, and events at these wonderful houses. It is with that commitment and sense of community spirit that the Friends of the Historic Houses works closely with city staff and with our fellow citizens on the Virginia Beach Historic Houses Foundation and the Historic Preservation Commission.
