We are proud to celebrate Amanda Chisholm, Speech Language Pathologist at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital, for receiving the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association Speak Up for Safety Award, given to only two individuals statewide each quarter.

When Amanda noticed subtle neurological changes, she trusted her instincts, escalated her concerns, and helped ensure her patient received rapid stroke evaluation and timely treatment when every second mattered.

Moments like these show how speaking up, trusting clinical instincts, and acting quickly can directly impact patient outcomes. 💛

Hampton Roads is home to one of the highest rates of sickle cell disease in Virginia.

For the roughly 4,000 Virginians living with this complex condition, that can mean severe pain episodes, frequent hospitalizations, and ongoing health challenges. The disease also disproportionately impacts the African American community.

Today, we were honored to welcome Governor of Virginia Abigail Spanberger to Sentara Community Care Center in Newport News for the ceremonial signing of the Queen Candis Sickle Cell Act, a five-bill package advancing bias training for providers, expanded screening and education, support for school nurses, and a statewide coordinated care network.

The Act honors the life and legacy of 15-year-old Candis King, whose journey highlighted both the challenges faced by individuals living with sickle cell disease and the resilience of the families who support them.

The bill signing was held at the Sentara Community Care Center because of its mission to improve access to healthcare and essential services for underserved communities. Two years ago, Sentara also partnered with Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University to launch the Sentara-EVMS Comprehensive Sickle Cell Program on the Sentara Norfolk General Hospital campus.

400 nurse leaders. One mission. One Sentara.

Last week, we brought together nurse leaders from across our health system for the 2026 Nursing Leadership Symposium — a day of learning, connection, and inspiration.

From meaningful conversations with our nursing executives to a powerful keynote from Kay Kennedy on human-centered leadership and the recognition of two DAISY Nurse Leader Award honorees, the day reflected our commitment to the people who lead patient care every day.

Because when we invest in our nurse leaders, we strengthen care for every patient and community we serve.💙

Thank you to our sponsors Andor Health, EBSCO, and Covista (Chamberlain University & Walden University), along with all of our exhibitors and partners who made this event possible.🙏

More than 2,000 Hampton Roads seniors gathered at ACCESS College Foundation's 2026 College Commitment Day to celebrate college acceptances, scholarship awards, and the exciting opportunities ahead. 🎓💚

Events like this help remove barriers to education, open doors to new possibilities, and empower students to pursue their goals. We're proud to support ACCESS College Foundation and its mission to help students build brighter futures.

One of our favorite moments from the day was awarding a scholarship to Lalein Runnels of Kempsville High School. Congratulations, Lalein! We are honored to be a small part of your journey and look forward to seeing all you'll achieve. ✨
