Youth homelessness often looks different than what people expect. It can be hidden, complicated, and underreported. Young people need more than a safe place to stay; they need trusted adults who recognize what they're going through and can help them build a path toward independent living. For 54 years, Second Story has been that resource for our community, stepping into the hidden stories that require creativity, compassion, and experience. We help young people who might be couch surfing while attending high school, holding down jobs, and carrying unimaginable stress behind closed doors, or those experiencing another crisis.

We’re grateful to longtime Second Story supporter Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce for shining a spotlight on our work at its annual Summer Soiree last month, and for generously selecting Second Story to receive a portion of the event’s auction proceeds!

We were also so glad to have Second Story Board Members Catherine Ahearn, President of the Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce, and Rabab Butti there representing and supporting Second Story. Facing homelessness, Michael was ready to drop out of high school just so he could work enough hours to afford rent.

Choosing between an education and a roof over your head is a choice no teenager should ever have to make. Luckily, a school counselor connected Michael with Second Story for Homeless Youth.

On October 15, join us at the Beacon of Hope Breakfast to ensure that every young person in our community who reaches out for help finds an open door.
