🎃 A LITTLE SPOOKY, A LOT SPECTACULAR! 🦉🦇

Whooo's ready for Halloween? This time of year, we're celebrating some of Florida's most fascinating feathered friends - the birds that might give you a fright but deserve our appreciation!

👻 Vultures: With their unusual appearance and association with the spooky side of nature, vultures may not win any beauty contests, but they're essential members of our ecosystem. As nature's cleanup crew, they help remove animal remains and limit the spread of disease.

🦉 Owls: From the haunting screech of a Barn Owl to the deep nighttime calls of a Great Horned Owl, these nocturnal hunters are full of surprises. Their incredible hearing, silent flight, and ability to control rodent populations make them some of nature's most remarkable pest controllers.

🦅 Ospreys: With their piercing eyes, powerful talons, and dramatic dives for fish, these skilled hunters are a familiar sight along the Indian River Lagoon. They're a reminder of the incredible wildlife that depends on our local waterways.

This Halloween, let's celebrate the birds that make nature a little more mysterious, a little more magical, and a whole lot more interesting!

The scariest thing of all? Losing the habitats these amazing birds call home. 🌿

🕵️‍♀️ We have a mystery on our hands, flock! Who built this incredible nest in Vero Beacb? 🤔

One thing we know for sure: this bird is a MASTER engineer! 👷‍♂️🐦

And take a closer look at how they wrapped the nest material around the palm frond! 😲 The precision, the placement, the sheer ingenuity! Nature’s architects deserve WAY more credit.

So, bird experts and backyard detectives, we need your help! 👀

Have you had a chance to visit the Cultural Council of Indian River County's Art in Public Places exhibits? If not, please considering being inspired by the Emerging Artists Showcase, "Through Their Eyes" at the IG Center. This exhibit showcases our Audubon Advocates afterschool program where fifth grade students from four local School District of Indian River County schools capture the beauty of nature. These young artists will surely impress you!

A BIG thank you to all of those that came out to City of Sebastian’s Stormwater Park to help us with our first of four W**d Wrangles!

Together over 30 volunteers, many from United Way of Indian River County’s Day of Caring, removed 358.5lbs of invasive plants. This removal will allow our native plants to grow and thrive! 🌱

Couldn’t make this one but you still want to wrangle some weeds 🤠 ? Join us for our next event on November 14th from 9-11am at Sebastian Stormwater Park.

Here’s a sneak peek at an upcoming Peligram article on fall bird migration! Since August, 33 warbler species have been reported across our county, along with some exciting sightings of vireos and flycatchers.

✨ Some of these sightings are rare treats, with several species reported just once!
