How far to pollinators fly?

How far to pollinators fly?

Celebrate by converting sterile, poisoned lawns to pollinator-friendly and bird-friendly habitat. Pollinators are necessary for many of our flowering plants. We can and should make the effort to attract our native pollinators by stopping all landscape-wide pesticides and by planting a wide variety of native plants arranged in ways that make it easier for pollinators to thrive. Some can only fly a short distance to find nectar, so your yard may be their entire universe.

Time to stop Fertilizing!

Time to stop Fertilizing!

🌧️ Rainy season is here, and so is the Indian River County fertilizer ban, in effect from June 1 through September 30. During this time, fertilizers containing nitrogen or phosphorus may not be applied to lawns or landscaping.

Why does it matter? Excess fertilizer can wash into storm drains, canals, and the Indian River Lagoon, contributing to harmful algal blooms that reduce water quality and threaten fish, wildlife, and other natural resources.

You can help protect our lagoon by:
✅ Keeping fertilizer at least 10 feet away from waterways
✅ Avoiding fertilizer applications before heavy rain
✅ Keeping grass clippings and yard debris out of streets, gutters, and storm drains

Small actions can make a big difference. By working together, we can help protect our waterways and keep Sebastian beautiful for generations to come!
