Christian Outreach International Missions Org Missionary Passes

It is with a heavy heart I let you know that one of our long-time, faithful COI missionaries, colleague and friend has gone to his heavenly home. Coach Trent Detamore went to his reward on Saturday, January 7, 2023 in Indianapolis, Indiana while doing one of his passions..working out in the gym. He had a heart attack and passed immediately. He was 75.

His wife was in the midst of a 3 year battle with brain cancer and had been in hospice for several days. Mrs. Detamore passed one day after Trent on Sunday. Our thoughts and prayers go out to their son, daughter, granddaughters, and family.

Throughout his career, Coach Trent meant SO much to so many, especially young men. He was a Texas High School Football Coach and Athletic Director, very involved with Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and a mentor to dozens of young men that he coached and served with.

He served as full-time missionary with COI since 1994, 28 years. He served in the Sports Division, the Disaster Relief Division, and Team Missions. He took a mission trip as a COI leader every year, so his impact was immense. His last COI mission trip was Summer 2022. His daughter is also a COI Alumni.

Trent was a man of God with character that was stellar. He was not only a colleague, but a true friend to me. He encouraged, trusted, and respected me, especially when I had the challenging job of following in my Father’s footsteps leading COI. I will miss him, as will our teams and staff. He cared about them, and served them well.

Christian Outreach International has responded to many disasters by mobilizing dozens and dozens of mission/worker teams to serve over the years, starting with 5 years of continuous service in the Gulf Coast and New Orleans in 2005. We have been on site and lead many teams in flood, earthquake, hurricane and other disaster situations.
We are praying over the disaster in the Bahamas.....when and if we will be taking teams to help the churches, and believers rebuild, and the best way you and your church can give to be the most effective in meeting needs.
While first response and government officials do the initial parts of rescue, and stabilization of the crisis, the most important thing we can do is continue to pray for the officials, the aid to start getting to the people, the equipping of the spiritual leaders and churches to work in disasters, God begin to heal hearts from trauma, grief, despair and hopelessness, continued protection and that in the midst of it all, people receive the Lord. There will be much that believers and churches can do to help the families, people, and Churches of the Bahamas recover. The Lord will help you Bahamas, hear your prayers, and heal your land.

A team of missionary volunteers has come to Orlando from Robinson Illinois very year for the last 6 to serve with Christian Outreach International. Once again, last week, they made a huge impact with their VBS, sports clinic and backpack giveaway in a complex that might not otherwise have one. They have also blessed the Homeless community. Thank you Brenda and all the Porterville Mission Teams that have been so faithful to serve here. Short term missions done right changes lives forever!

On Tuesday the visiting missionaries in Orlando serving with COI from Illinois were at the Special Children’s Hospital Ronald Mc Donald House serving dinner and ministering to families here. Their children are some of the most ill... the families almost always receive prayers. We will be praying for 8 year old Brianna and her family this week. Cancer has to go!
There is ministry everywhere if your eyes and heart are open for it, and you make time and space to do it. We welcome you and your team to serve with us at Christian Outreach International Orlando. Short term missions done right changes lives forever. 😌🙋🏼‍♀️

So proud of the work Christian Outreach International (COI) Short Term mission teams are doing in the Dominican Republic. This week Mission Possible Team, Connection Church, Hinesville, GA gave bountiful supplies to this nursing home and the Pastors’s that run it. We have adopted this home over the years...another team is sending medical equipment from the US, and providing irrigation so they can grow their own food! This is a beautiful project..taking care of the “least of them”. Jesus doesn’t forget them. An example of short term missions creating a lasting effect. Short term missions done right changes lives forever! Thank you Connection Church and your Mission Possible 2019 COI DR team...your 9th year with us. GO like lives depend on it, because they do!

Our condolences and prayers go to our Christian Outreach International national missionaries in Kenya, Paul and Mary Kamunge, and the 50 Sunshine Kids(less fortunate children and families in their care) as they mourn the loss of 10 year old John Marcus, their brother and friend. He became ill this week, and they laid him to rest on Thursday. 😢. Rest in heaven John...see you when we get there. It is the first passing of one of our Sunshine Kids..and by God’s grace and our prayers, the only. God’s peace to you all!🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️

Prayer warriors alert...from our COI missionaries, Alex and Patrice in Ukraine:

“To all PRAYER WARRIORS, Please pray for elections this weekend March 30 - 31 in Ukraine. Pray for the Lord to intervene and help people make the right choice at the poles. The people are very disappointed in the current president but the alternative candidates could be far worse than the current. Pray that the Lord will pull through the candidate who He will be able to work through and that His will would be done at the poles. Many people want peace with Russia but that would mean sacrificing freedom. I FEEL LIKE THIS IS A VERY CRITICAL POINT FOR UKRAINE, SO THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND PRAYERS!”

Happy 79th Birthday to our Co-Founder, Rosa Isleib!
