We’re excited to share that America’s Volunteer Driver Center (AVDC) has officially launched its nationwide public information campaign to recruit volunteer drivers!

Beginning today, individuals interested in volunteering can visit the AVDC website to sign up and connect with participating nonprofit and government-affiliated transportation programs in their communities.

Community in Motion is proud to be part of this national network. Through AVDC, prospective volunteers in our area will be able to discover our Volunteers in Motion program and explore meaningful ways to support older adults and people with mobility challenges.

Volunteer drivers play a vital role in helping community members stay connected to healthcare, essential services, and everyday life. We’re grateful to be included in this effort to expand volunteer transportation nationwide.

We look forward to welcoming new volunteers and will continue to share updates as this initiative grows.

If you have questions about volunteering with Community in Motion, we’re always happy to connect.

America's Volunteer Driver Center Launches Today!

Every day, millions of older Americans across the country are stranded without transportation, while countless people who would gladly help remain unaware of their need.
America’s Volunteer Driver Center (AVDC) was created to bridge this gap.

After more than two years of planning, ITNAmerica is proud to announce AVDC’s national campaign launch to recruit 150,000 volunteer drivers. AVDC will introduce people who are interested in volunteering to drive to nonprofit transportation providers nationwide, and millions of people, especially in rural and suburban communities, will have access to friendly, local rides.

It’s a simple idea whose time has come. America’s Volunteer Driver Center will do for nonprofit transportation what the Red Cross has done for volunteer blood donation.

🎉 Join us at the Juneteenth Freedom Celebration! 🎉

Community in Motion is honored to once again participate in Vancouver's Juneteenth Freedom Celebration at Esther Short Park.

President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, but freedom did not immediately reach everyone it promised to free. In Confederate-held territories, slavery continued as the Civil War raged on. It was not until June 19, 1865, more than two years later, that Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce and enforce emancipation in the last Confederate state where slavery remained largely unchecked. While Texas was not the final state in the nation to end slavery, this moment became a powerful symbol of freedom delayed and freedom realized.

The following year, newly freed Black Texans organized the first annual observance of the occasion, often called "Jubilee Day," laying the foundation for what we now celebrate as Juneteenth.

By reflecting on this history and the enduring legacy of slavery, we deepen our understanding of our nation's past and present while strengthening our commitment to a more just and equitable future.

Juneteenth is also a fun and vibrant celebration of Black history, culture, resilience, achievements, and the many ways Black Americans have shaped and strengthened our communities and country.

Join us for a day of live entertainment, local vendors, cultural experiences, family activities, and opportunities to connect with neighbors and community organizations.

We had such a great time at the very first Silver Trails outing at Orchards Community Park! 🌿👟

It was a beautiful day filled with fresh air, towering Douglas-fir, great conversation, and community connection. One of the highlights was discovering the hidden RC car racetrack tucked into the woods, built by local community members!

We’re grateful to partner with Parks Foundation and Vancouver Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services to help create opportunities for older adults to get outside, stay active, explore local parks, and connect with others in the community.

We’re already looking forward to next month’s walk along the Renaissance Trail! 🌳

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the first Silver Trails outing such a success.

🚶🚲🌱 Community feedback helps create safer, stronger, and more connected transportation systems for everyone.

At the recent 192nd Avenue Project open house, community members shared valuable input on how people travel the corridor, roundabout central island design, and preferences for walking, biking, rolling, and crossing improvements along the corridor.

If you missed the open house, there’s still time to participate! The online comment card is open through May 31, and feedback will go directly to the project team to help shape the final design ahead of the final open house in fall 2026.

We encourage community members to share their thoughts and help shape the future of this important corridor: beheardvancouver.org/192nd
