🎃 It's time for a little spooky fun with our wrestling family! 👻

We are excited to announce that Valley Center Youth Wrestling and our FIERCE FEARLESS FEMALE | Womens & Girls Wrestling Initiative initiative will be participating in the Valley Center Business Assn. annual Trunk or Treat event!

We would love to have our wrestlers, families, coaches, and supporters come together to represent VCYW, enjoy some Halloween fun, and connect with our local community!

There are several ways you can help make this event a success!

🎨 Help Decorate!
Have a creative idea for our wrestling-themed trunk? We would love your input! Whether you want to help plan, decorate, or bring supplies, all ideas and contributions are welcome.

🍬 Donate Candy!
We are collecting individually wrapped candy to distribute to the children attending. Donations of any size are appreciated and can be brought to practice or dropped off at the clubhouse.

🙋 Volunteer at Our Booth!
We would love to have our wrestlers and parents help hand out candy, greet families, share information about our club, and show our community what VCYW is all about!

👻 Come Enjoy the Fun!
Even if you cannot volunteer, we encourage you to stop by, say hello, bring the family, and enjoy the festivities!

Why do we participate in events like this?

Because Valley Center Youth Wrestling is about so much more than what happens on the mat.

We are building a community where our athletes learn the importance of teamwork, service, leadership, and giving back. Events like this allow our wrestlers to represent their club, connect with their neighbors, and take pride in being part of something bigger than themselves.

💪🐆 Valley Center Youth Wrestling's mission goes beyond wins, losses, and medals. We're committed to instilling discipline, hard work, and perseverance while helping young athletes develop confidence, character, leadership, and a sense of belonging.

There's a place for every athlete at VCYW! 🤼 Young, Beginner, those with Special Needs, and those who want to compete.

We offer different levels of training to meet athletes where they are, whether they're stepping onto the mat for the first time or preparing for competition.

🐾 Littles & Movement: Introduction to wrestling through movement, coordination, balance, body awareness, games, and foundational skills.

🤼 Youth Recreational / Noncompetitive: Fundamental wrestling techniques, skill development, conditioning, confidence, and overall athletic development.

🏆 Competitive Wrestlers: Extended practice focused on technical development, drilling, live wrestling, conditioning, and competition preparation.

Valley Center Youth Wrestling and sagecreek_wrestlingteam are excited to welcome Coach Quantal Langford for the next installment of the Way of the Wrestler series!

Coach Q brings a unique approach to wrestling that goes beyond technique: blending skill development, creativity, mindset, and personal growth into an unforgettable experience on the mat.

This exclusive clinic is open to wrestlers of all ages, genders, experience levels, and abilities. Whether you're just starting or preparing for the next level, there will be something here for you.

Our coaching staff will be on the mat throughout the clinic to help ensure every athlete receives instruction and support appropriate to their level.

Coach Spotlight: Ruth Martin

For Ruth, coaching became more than a way to give back. It became a bridge. After a major injury interrupted her own wrestling journey, Ruth found herself fighting her way back, not only physically, but mentally and emotionally. She was still an athlete with goals, drive, and unfinished business, but she could not always participate in the sport the way she once had.

Ruth poured her experience into our younger wrestlers. She demonstrated technique, helped lead instruction, supported athletes one-on-one, and became someone they could trust during the moments when wrestling felt difficult. Through coaching, she remained part of the sport she loves while continuing to rebuild her own strength and confidence.

What makes Ruth’s leadership especially meaningful is that she understands struggle from both sides. She knows what it feels like to compete, to push through hard practices, to face disappointment, and to have circumstances change the path you thought you were on. That perspective has made her a patient coach, one who doesn't give up on wrestlers who need her, a compassionate mentor, and an important example for the athletes around her.

Ruth has been part of Valley Center Youth Wrestling from the beginning, growing from a quiet helper into an assistant coach, lead instructor, and mentor to our female wrestlers.

This season, even while navigating her own recovery, she continued to show up for practices, tournaments, clinics, and team activities with consistency and heart.

She has also continued fighting for her own return, training when able, competing when possible, and refusing to let injury define the end of her story.

At the close of the season, Ruth earned our Tier 1 VCYW Leadership Scholarship, recognizing not only the hours she gave, but the leadership, resilience, and impact behind them.

Ruth, we are proud of the athlete you are still becoming and deeply grateful for the coach you have already become. Your path may have changed, but your purpose on the mat never disappeared. Sometimes coaching is not the end of an athlete’s journey. Sometimes it is the bridge that carries her back. 🐆🤼‍♀️

Coach Spotlight: Sergio Lucero-Avila

Sergio joined the VCYW coaching staff during our 2025–2026 folkstyle season, stepping into a role that was new, unfamiliar, and sometimes outside his comfort zone. What followed was one of the most meaningful examples of growth we witnessed all season.

He began by observing, learning, helping with setup and cleanup, supporting athletes, and assisting wherever he was needed. With every practice, tournament, and event, Sergio became more confident in his voice and his ability to lead.
Before long, he was no longer simply assisting. He was demonstrating technique, leading drills, guiding sections of practice, helping athletes through difficult moments, and becoming someone our wrestlers could look to for encouragement and instruction.

Sergio dedicated countless hours to our program this season, but his impact cannot be measured by hours alone. It can be seen in the relationships he built, the athletes he encouraged, the responsibilities he accepted, and the confidence he developed along the way.

At the end of the season, Sergio earned our Tier 1 VCYW Leadership Scholarship, recognizing his commitment, consistency, leadership, and service to our athletes and organization.

Sergio, thank you for showing up, stepping up, and allowing yourself to grow alongside the wrestlers you serve. We are incredibly grateful that you became part of our coaching team, and we are excited to see where your leadership journey takes you next. 🐆🤼‍♂️

Western Days, VCYW style 🤠💪

We had such a fun morning representing Valley Center Youth Wrestling in the Western Days Parade! From decorating the trailer, face paint, tattoos, bikes, smiles, and lots of teal, black & gold, red, white & blue and western spirit this crew showed up with so much energy and heart.

We are so grateful for our wrestlers, families, coaches, and community members who helped make the day happen. VCYW is about more than wrestling: it’s about building community, confidence, discipline, hard work, and perseverance.

Proud to roll through Valley Center with this crew. 🖤💛

Small-town parade. Big wrestling family. 🖤💛

Valley Center Youth Wrestling had a blast at the ! Our wrestlers and families brought the spirit, the smiles, the decorations, and the energy as we celebrated our community together.

Days like this are such a sweet reminder of what makes this club special: kids showing up, families pitching in, coaches leading, and everyone coming together to represent something bigger than themselves.

Thank you to everyone who helped decorate, organize, ride, walk, cheer, and support VCYW today. We are proud to be part of this community.
