Your tax-deductible donations go to support these very deserving animals. Coastal is dedicated to providing new beginnings for homeless German Shepherds who have been abandoned, neglected, abused, relinquished by their owners or just left at local shelters to await an uncertain future. We are committed to finding loving permanent homes for the Orphaned dogs in our care. Coastal is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization. Our mission is to educate the public about German Shepherds, their lifespan, personality, and activity level, along with overall responsible dog ownership. We also raise awareness of the overpopulation of animals through education, training, spaying, and neutering. We work very hard to match each dog with the adoptive families. All prospective adoptive families must complete an online application followed by a telephone interview and then receive a home visit before a German Shepherd is placed in their forever home.

Our gorgeous Milton is still waiting for his happily ever after!

Since joining our Coastal K9 pack, Milton has settled beautifully into life at the Ranch. He's become quite comfortable with his daily routine, enjoying time with our volunteers, romping around our play yards, and soaking up all the attention that comes his way.

Milton is a wonderful young dog with so much to offer. He's friendly with people, enjoys the company of other dogs, and has a sweet, affectionate personality that's hard not to love.

You might notice that Milton's tail is a little shorter than your typical German Shepherd's. Somewhere along the way, his tail was docked, leaving him with about three-quarters of the original. We don't know the story behind his shortened tail, but we do know one thing for sure: Milton may be missing a quarter of his tail, but he's got 100% of his heart to give! ❤️

This handsome boy is ready to leave his past behind and start his next chapter with a family of his very own.

Meet Cleo! ❤️🐾

Cleo is a wonderful 3–4-year-old German Shepherd who is just waiting for the right family to come along. She is truly an amazing dog, and one of the things we love most about Cleo is that she's a dog's dog! She absolutely loves the companionship of other dogs and is happiest when she has a canine buddy to spend time with.

In fact, Cleo is a fantastic mentor to younger dogs! When young Rolo first arrived at the Ranch, Cleo took him under her wing, showing him the ropes and helping him learn that people can be trusted. It was pretty special to watch.

While Cleo may take a little time to feel completely comfortable with new people, she has no trouble making friends with other dogs. She's easy to walk, knows basic commands, and would thrive with routine, regular exercise, and kind, patient guidance.

It’s been another busy week at the Coastal K9 Ranch filled with new rescue dogs, adoptions, meet-and-greets, enrichment, playtime, therapy, and lots of one-on-one time with our dogs. 🐾❤️

Just another week helping our dogs heal, grow, have fun, and get one step closer to their forever homes.

🐾 FOSTER FOCUS: RYDER! 🐾

Sometimes the best dogs are the ones who don't need to be the center of attention. ❤️

Ryder recently joined one of our wonderful Coastal K9 foster families, and he's doing just as well as we thought he would! His foster mom describes him as a "poster child for adult adoption," and it's easy to see why!

This handsome, quietly confident boy has wonderful house manners, a calm temperament, and a heart full of love.

🏡 Here's what we're learning about Ryder:

🐾 Housebroken with excellent indoor manners

🐾 Trustworthy when left alone, with no destructive behaviors

🐾 Walks beautifully on a loose leash and loves neighborhood strolls and longer hikes

🐾 Knows several commands, including sit, down, stay, come, place, leave it, and paw

🐾 Sleeps peacefully through the night

🐾 Polite at mealtime and takes treats gently

🐾 Alert and observant without unnecessary barking

But it's Ryder's little quirks that make him truly special. You can often find him sleeping sprawled out on his back, completely relaxed and without a care in the world! He loves belly rubs, carries on conversations through a series of adorable grunts, and stomps his front paws when he has something important to say! And when he's feeling especially affectionate, he'll lean in for a tender kiss.

Ryder isn't loud or showy. He doesn't need to be. He's the kind of dog who quietly works his way into your heart and makes you wonder how you ever lived without him.

We're so grateful to his foster family for giving Ryder the opportunity to show us what a wonderful companion he truly is.

Now all he needs is a forever family to call his own. 🏡❤️

❤️🐾 ADOPTED! Morticia (now Roxxy) has found her forever home! 🏡

Some adoption stories are extra special, and this is one of them!

When Morticia first came to Coastal K9, she was a frightened girl who had learned to protect her heart. Trust didn't come easily, but with patience, love, and time, we began to see the sweet, playful girl hiding beneath that guarded exterior.

And now, look at her! ❤️

Morticia, now Roxxy, has found the perfect family, and the love is mutual! She's absolutely smitten with her new humans, who couldn't be happier to have her in their lives. And as if that weren't enough, Roxxy has a new GSD sister to share all the adventures ahead!

For a girl who once struggled to trust, seeing her so happy, loved, and completely at home is everything we could have hoped for.

Happy tails, sweet Roxxy! You were always worth the wait, and your best life is just beginning! ❤️🐾

Living Their Best Life — Memphis❤️🐾

Memphis, now Wharf, was adopted in 2021 and has been an amazing addition to his family, especially for his GSD sister, Jetty. She was 7 when they adopted him, and his arrival gave her a renewed sense of adventure.

His family shared:

“Wharf came to us at the end of the pandemic. He was well socialized with both dogs and people, had great house manners, and enough confidence to seek out a playmate. Sometimes he gets a ‘no thank you’ from another dog, but he respects that and quickly moves on.

At home, Wharf loves to prance around with a stolen toy in hopes of being chased, and he celebrates every bath with laps around the yard!

At the beach, he’s the adult dog who happily plays with the most energetic puppies. He also likes to play ‘referee,’ trotting around friendly wrestling matches and stepping in to briefly split things up when the energy gets a little too high.

Wharf is very quiet and leaves the alert barking to his senior sister, Jetty. He investigates, but without the drama. He loves watching the neighborhood go by and gets especially excited when he hears the mail truck—our carrier has won his affection with a daily treat.

Wharf is incredibly affectionate and aims to please. He’s always up for an adventure or a walk. Sometimes he even naps in the car, probably so he won’t miss the next adventure.

Thank you, Coastal K9 German Shepherd Rescue, for taking him in from the Ramona Humane Society, where I probably never would have met him. Wharf has been such a gift.”

Luka survived six long months in the shelter system before finally getting his second chance. Sadly, many dogs don’t get that happy ending, but Luka’s story took a different turn when he joined our Coastal K9 Pack. ❤️🐾

Life at the shelter wasn’t always easy for Luka. He was bullied by his kennel mates, and like many of the dogs we rescue, he carries some scars from those experiences. Now, with time, patience and a safe, loving environment, we’ll begin showing Luka that there are people, and other dogs, he can trust.

Luka is friendly with people, a handsome boy with the cutest little ears, and it’s pretty hard not to fall in love with him. He’s looking for a family who will believe in him and give him the time and environment he needs to become the dog he was always meant to be.

Stay tuned. Over the next several days and weeks, we’re excited to learn more about this sweet boy.

Living Their Best Life — Ivan ❤️🐾

Earlier this year, our sweet senior Ivan found his forever home and it sounds like this big, beautiful boy is making the most of every day. Here’s an updated from his mom:

“Ivan is our big, beautiful boy who loves his meals, his treats, and especially his walks. He’s gone from barely making it around the block to sometimes walking 2–3 miles! On his walks, everyone in Monterey seems to recognize him—they comment on his size and beauty and always call out, ‘Hi, Ivan!’

His favorite place, though, is home and his favorite food is salmon, which is lucky for us living in the Monterey Bay.

Soon, Ivan will be off on a big adventure to Lake Tahoe to meet his aunts, uncles, and two cousins (dogs). He likes other dogs, although he mostly prefers to ignore them!

We’re looking forward to many more adventures in his big, beautiful life and will forever be grateful to Coastal K9 for bringing Ivan into ours. ❤️🐾”

We couldn’t be happier seeing Ivan so loved and living his best life.
