We're a 501(c)(3) public benefit organization dedicated to protecting working farms and natural areas in Solano County. Join us for fun activities for you, your friends, and your family! Take a free guided hike, volunteer with us, or attend a special event like our annual kite festival, trail run, sporting clay shoot, feast & art auction. You'll find them all at www.solanolandtrust.org. Our anchor properties at Jepson Prairie, the King-Swett Ranches, Lynch Canyon and Rush Ranch represent the rich and varied landscape that makes Solano County unique. From rare vernal pools to tidal marsh wetlands to rolling serpentine grasslands, our properties serve an important role in preserving these habitats for residents in the local community, the Greater Bay Area and all of California. Working in close partnership with landowners, state and federal agencies, cattle and sheep grazers, nonprofits and our many dedicated volunteers, we'll continue to protect and preserve Solano County’s farmland, ranchland, and open space well into the future.

Solano County's diversity is also in its crop production. A must read 💚

Harvest is nearly in across Solano County, and planting season has already started.

Almonds and processing tomatoes are done. The last Chandler walnuts are coming off now. Right behind them, fields are being worked for winter wheat and cover crops, and our ranchers are watching the sky for the first rain to green up winter pasture.

That steady turnover is how one county grows more than 100 crops and commodities. In 2025 it added up to a record $476.21 million, according to the Solano County Crop and Livestock Report.

We are asking you to vote NO on Proposition 45 in the upcoming election. This proposition will roll back the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), the law that requires large projects to study their impacts, disclose them to the public, and account for their true costs. For Solano County, that matters most for generational land use decisions like the proposed Suisun Expansion. Decisions that will shape our farmland, open space, water, and communities for the next hundred years should be made with full data, full transparency, and full community input.

Solano Land Trust staff was out east of Highway 113 recently, meeting with a local ranching family to discuss opportunities to conserve their land and the agricultural values it holds.

Their family has farmed and raised livestock here for multiple generations, and that’s exactly what they foresee future generations continuing to do on this land. Preserving this land fits their farm operation perfectly.

While out on the Maine Prairie agricultural region of Solano County, our team observed the incredible diversified agriculture that makes this area so special—from irrigated pasture lands and brand-new nut orchards to active alfalfa harvesting! 🌾🚜✨

Agricultural diversity supports economic resilience. Blending livestock, row crops, and orchards protects local farms from market shifts, keeping the agricultural economy stable, adaptable, and strong for generations to come.
