Did you know that each year National C.O.P.S. has a design contest for the annual memorial holiday ornament? This year’s ornament was designed by surviving child Adelaide LaForge, age 13.

Adelaide is the surviving daughter of Racine County (WI) Sheriff's Deputy Joshua LaForge, EOW 7/4/2023.

Adelaide says she gained inspiration for this ornament because of what C.O.P.S. means to her:

"I got inspiration from the tale of Rudolph, and how he led the sleigh through the storm. I found that similar to how C.O.P.S. leads survivors through their darkest and messiest days."

The 2026 C.O.P.S. Holiday Ornament is a special way to honor the memory of a fallen officer while supporting survivors and their families.

Join us for a great night as we honor our officers lost in the line of duty, celebrate survivors, and raise funds to continue the mission to help rebuild the shattered lives of surviving family members and co-workers affected by line of duty deaths.

Our hearts go out to Officer Liles’ family and the California Highway Patrol.

It is with profound sadness that the California Highway Patrol announces the line-of-duty death of Officer Brian Liles of the Visalia Area.

On September 28, 2026, at approximately 5:11 p.m., CHP Motorcycle Officer Liles was involved in an on-duty traffic crash on State Route 99, just north of State Route 190 in Tipton. He sustained critical injuries and, despite lifesaving efforts, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Officer Liles, 44, served the people of California for more than 16 years. After graduating from the CHP Academy in 2010, he was assigned to the San Jose Area and later served in the Hayward and Fresno Areas before transferring to the Visalia Area in 2019.

Officer Liles is survived by his wife, two children, his parents, and two sisters.

The CHP extends its deepest condolences to Officer Liles’ family, friends, loved ones, and all who served alongside him. His dedication to public service and commitment to protecting the people of California will not be forgotten.
