Due to complications from Covid and in consultation with the Executive Director and Theatre Director, Solano Youth Theatre is cancelling Scrooge. YACM will immediately refund all tuition and membership fees associated with enrollment.
Solano Youth Theatre (SYT) is dedicated to the development of youth by nurturing critical skills associated with successful emotional and social development. Members of SYT become more relational, empathetic, imaginative, self-aware, and community-minded.
California Covid guidelines allow for modified outdoor activities in both the red and purple tiers. SYT has made every effort to meet guidelines for small group outdoor programs in support of our non-profit mission. It is for this reason that the SYT leadership offered a program to rehearse outdoors a small cast, and to perform outdoors for a limited audience an adaptation of “Scrooge”.
Due to Covid, programs like SYT must be secondary to the physical well-being of our community. Due to Covid, our effort to offer in-person arts is met with an unprecedented need to manage variables and an unpredictable future that challenges that very effort.
Young Artists Conservatory of Music, the sponsor of SYT, has been offering modified outdoor vocal groups, acting classes, and recitals since July in accordance with state and local guidelines. Our investment in our outdoor venue was designed to meet the requirements of the most restricted purple tier.
After being forced to cancel West Side Story and Aladdin last spring, our Executive Director couldn’t be more saddened by this action in the wake of the excitement and enthusiasm of the youth Scrooge cast. Due to the current surge in Covid, we cannot invest in a production that might be another victim of a more restricted shutdown preventing the outdoor performance on Dec 20-21.
We are not abandoning our mission or our resolve to resurrect live performances for SYT. We simply make this decision now in an effort to preserve the full confidence of our community and future of SYT.
The leadership continues to review all possible and prudent options for SYT programs including but not limited to outdoor classes, online table readings, and online classes / presentations.
In This Together, Trying As Hard as We Can,
Wanda Cook, Executive Director
