Mexicantown Community Development Corporation Since 1989, MexicantownCDC has worked to preserve and celebrate Latino culture, art and history.

Since 1989, the Mexicantown Community Development Corporation (MexicantownCDC) has long played a leading role in the revitalization of Mexicantown-SwDetroit. Informed by its guiding principle “A strong ethnic identity equals a strong economy”, MexicantownCDC would train community residents in entrepreneurship to resume economic ownership of community businesses and empowerment of community residen

ts that had been severed with the construction of the I-75 freeway in the early 1960s.

​In 2007, MexicantownCDC became a leader in the revitalization of Southwest Detroit with the $17.5 M development of its Welcome Center and Mercado buildings and outdoor plaza, honoring Latino contributions to Detroit and Michigan. Its high-quality, affordable retail space and popular Mexicantown Latino Cultural Center/Art Gallery/community meeting space, housed in the Plaza Del Norte building, ensure Southwest Detroit’s access to economic and cultural growth. Four thousand individuals currently flow monthly through the MexicantownCDC campus, conducting business with the State of Michigan’s Welcome Center, the Secretary of State offices, the DTE Energy payment center, the Detroit Works Career Center and the Southwest Economic Solutions’ offices. They also interact with the Gleaner’s of Southeastern Michigan Food Distribution hub and with a number of non-profit organizations providing services housed in the Mexicantown Mercado building.

Tomorrow, May 28, is the final day to experience Workers! an exhibition dedicated to the people who show up every single day for this community.

Saturday on Bagley hit different.
MexicantownCDC and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra brought the neighborhood together for a free night of World Cup anthems, and the community showed up. Families, fútbol fans, music lovers, all of it.

Muchas gracias to everyone who attended the ¡Trabajadores!|Workers! opening!
A big shoutout to Dalia Reyes, an amazing independent curator and artist, for her assistance in organizing this show!

We are honored to have renowned painter Nora Chapa Mendoza, 2024 Kresge Eminent Artist, as the juror for this exhibit and to showcase again some of her artwork at La Galería.

This exhibit, like many we have co-organized in the past, provides emerging artists with a space for their work.
We are very pleased to see participation from artists who have never taken part in an artist call before.

The ¡Trabajadores!|Workers! exhibit runs through May 28.

Nos sentimos honrados de contar con la renombrada pintora, Nora Chapa Mendoza —Artista Eminente Kresge 2024— como jurado de esta exposición y de mostrar nuevamente algunas de sus obras en La Galería.

Esta exhibición, al igual que muchas otras que hemos coorganizado anteriormente, brinda a los artistas emergentes un espacio para su mostrar su trabajo.

Estamos muy complacidos de ver la participación de artistas que nunca habían participado en una convocatoria artística.

La exposición ¡Trabajadores! estará abierta al público hasta el 28 de mayo.

Get ready for a celebration of music and unity!

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra and Mexicantown CDC proudly present “Anthems of the World Cup.”

Join us for an exciting evening with DSO musicians and Armando Vega with the 313 Orchestra, performing anthems from some of the countries participating in the 2026 World Cup and more!

Whether you are a fútbol (soccer) fan or a music lover, you will enjoy this free concert!

Stop by La Galería this week to explore the Esperanza exhibit!

Esperanza presents installations built from quilts, piñatas, garments, and found materials that carry histories of labor, migration, and immigration.

These installations by Irene Perez are the result of labor, both lived and inherited. They hold the weight of doing something again, not just as a process but as a way of living.
