We are heartbroken to learn that Mary Turner has passed away.

Our Executive Director, Raymond Lozano, had the pleasure of working directly with her during his time at La SED in the late '70s and early '80s, and they stayed connected throughout the years.

"It was great to work with 'María Vueltas,' her alter ego that, with a big smile, she would sometimes use to introduce herself," Ray recalls.

Mary was a remarkable community advocate. Her knowledge, connections, empathy, and humor made her a pleasure to work with and a true treasure to the community.

She strongly supported our work at MexicantownCDC and honored us with her grand presence at several events, both before and after we created La Galería y Café.

We will truly miss her.

Thank you to Ramón for trusting us with six decades of it, and to curator Vito Jesús Valdez for putting it on the wall.
