Congratulations to CCS Transportation Design student Jason Song, recipient of the 2026 Automotive Hall of Fame Global Scholars Award!

Presented at Car Design News’ Car Design Dialogues Detroit, the award recognizes emerging automotive designers whose creativity, originality, and vision have the potential to shape the industry’s future.

Following the ceremony, Jason joined a panel discussion on the future of automotive design alongside CCS Transportation Design Chair Paul Snyder, CCS alumna and GM Executive Director of Industrial Design Crystal Windham, and Car Design News Editor-in-Chief James McLachlan. The conversation explored AI, the importance of foundational design skills, and opportunities for the next generation of designers.

We’re proud to see Jason’s thoughtful approach to mobility design recognized and his voice included in conversations shaping what’s next!

As part of Detroit Month of Design, CCS’s Community Arts Partnerships hosted its Director’s Choice Exhibition & Reception, showcasing 50 artworks created by K–12 students from CAP’s community programs.

With their families there to celebrate, the young artists got to see their work professionally exhibited, receive awards, and share their creative experiences.

And the best part? The exhibition was planned and designed with help from CAP’s Bloomberg High School Arts Interns, giving students a hand in bringing this celebration of youth creativity to life!

A day with artist Pat Phillips at CCS!

Last week, before his Woodward Lecture Series talk, Phillips spent time with CCS Studio Art and Craft seniors in their studios, sitting down one-on-one with students to see their work and share feedback from his experience as a practicing artist.

As CCS Speakers & Exhibitions Manager Lucy Cahill puts it, “Woodward Lecture speakers engage with students through studio visits, demos, and workshops in more direct touch points for personal encounters that are meant to inspire and spark dialogue.”

Phillips continued that conversation that evening with a public lecture in partnership with MOCAD, sharing his creative process and Primer Mover, his first museum presentation at MOCAD.

What do cars, creativity, and a lifelong curiosity have in common? For Christine Montalbano, they all led to a UX career at Stellantis.

Spend a day with Christine, a User Experience Design master's graduate and now an In-Vehicle User Interface Design Manager at Stellantis.

Growing up in Metro Detroit, she was surrounded by cars and drawn to creative problem-solving. Today, she brings that same curiosity to designing in-vehicle experiences for Stellantis' 14 global brands, translating complex technology into something that feels simple and intuitive.

This , we’re highlighting U245 Gallery!

U245 is a student-run gallery where CCS students from across the College can propose and curate exhibitions featuring their own work and the work of their peers.

The gallery kicked things off with Destination Still Life Night, turning the space into a drawing playground for CCS students and community members. The finished drawings then became the exhibition! 👀

Students got to create, curate, and experience what it’s like to put on a show from start to finish. Getting a taste of some real-world experience, all at CCS.
