What does Connect Detroit ACTUALLY do?

For 25 years, we have helped good work happen.

When organizations have a shared goal but need someone to bring the pieces together, Connect Detroit can provide the structure, strategy, funding support and project management to move the work forward.

We don’t need to be the organization in the spotlight. We’d rather help make sure the organizations doing great work have what they need to succeed.
That has been our role in Detroit since 2001.

On August 6th, our Grow Detroit’s Young Talent (GDYT) partner The Lawn Academy hosted its annual Celebration Banquet, which included an award ceremony recognizing the accomplishments of its summer participants.

The Lawn Academy Founder Eric Miller explained that the program has seen growth year after year, which has expanded to six campuses across Detroit and includes summer activities like mowing the lawns for senior citizens, STEM education, mathematics, art and honoring the city’s centenarians with bouquets of roses.

We’re proud to see growth among our GDYT partners and programs and can’t wait to highlight more of the wonderful achievements of our young professionals. The future is bright!

Last week, more than 500 youth came together at Huntington Place for our annual Young Professionals Conference—a day designed to connect, inspire, empower and prepare the next generation of leaders.

Our summer employment participants started the day with breakfast and an inspiring message from Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network President & CEO James White, followed by an amazing performance from LSO Dance and a full day of interactive breakout sessions and wellness activities.

From mental health awareness and financial literacy to conflict management, self-care, effective communication and building positive relationships, our young professionals learned practical tools and insights they can carry with them into the workplace—and into life.

It’s incredibly rewarding to see so many talented young people from Detroit and beyond come together, build connections and invest in their futures. Preparing our youth for the workforce—and equipping them with the skills, confidence and resources to succeed—is at the heart of what we do at Connect Detroit.

We’re proud of our young talent and can’t wait to see where they go next. The future is bright!

Connect Detroit is proud to be a partner with Detroit Excellence in Youth Arts () in its work to increase conversations around the importance of youth arts.

A study commissioned by DEYA earlier this month recommends a new vision for how Detroit recognizes and coordinates youth arts programs to better serve the evolving capacities of young people. By improving how existing systems and infrastructure are viewed, we can enhance the creative experiences our youth deserve.
