Last month, we had the joy of sharing two days of learning, connection, and community with the families of Salem Keizer Coalition for Equality.
Our first day focused on Indigenous foodways, where families explored quelites, traditional harvesting, and the cultural importance of maize. They harvested and prepared quelites, learned the process of nixtamalization, and made tortillas using traditional tools like the metate and molcajete.
For our second day, we visited beautiful Silver Falls, learning about native plants, animals, and the importance of caring for the land. Families also participated in art and wellness workshops, creating ojo de dios, paper flowers, and herbal tea blends.
Across both days, we shared ancestral knowledge, stories, creativity, food, and wellness while creating meaningful connections with each other, the land, and our traditions.
We’re so grateful to have shared these experiences together!
