Today, we recognize National Grief Awareness Day—a time to acknowledge the many faces of grief and the impact it can have on our lives.

Grief is a natural response to losing someone or something important. It looks different for everyone and can affect us emotionally, physically, socially, and spiritually. There is no timeline and no finish line when it comes to grief.

On this day, we encourage our community to make space for conversations about loss, offer compassion to those who are grieving, and remember that no one should have to navigate grief alone.

At Tu Nidito, we are honored to provide support, connection, and hope to children, families, and adults coping with grief and serious illness.

Join us in raising awareness, breaking the silence around grief, and supporting one another with kindness and understanding. We offer grief support groups and a Pathways program free of charge to support a family that has a child with a serious medical condition. You can make a referral online: https://bit.ly/4pkPYJp

Grief doesn’t follow a rulebook. It doesn’t move in straight lines, and it doesn’t look the same from one person to another.

Some people cry. Some don’t. Some feel anger, numbness, relief, or all of it at once. Some grieve quietly, while others need to talk it through. All of it is valid. There is no “correct” timeline, no checklist to complete, and no expectation you need to meet. Grief is deeply personal—and however it shows up for you is okay. What matters most is finding support, being radically kind to yourself, and remembering you don’t have to navigate it alone.

However you grieve, there is not one formula, and we are here to support you. We offer grief support groups and 1:1 programming through our Pathways program that supports a family impacted by a child with a serious illness. You can enroll free of charge through our website: https://bit.ly/4pkPYJp

One Tu Nidito family shared with us how they have been impacted by our grief support group.

“The support is incomparable to anything else. It’s amazing to have a place where people truly understand. We all have a place where we can feel comfortable sharing our emotions and our story. Outside of here, we all put on the mask of being okay… It’s so amazing to have a place where we can remove the mask and just truly be ourselves.”

Grief can feel isolating. So often, children and caregivers feel pressure to appear “okay” for the world around them. Having a space where that mask can come off — where emotions are welcomed, stories are honored, and understanding is shared — is powerful.

We are honored to walk alongside families as they show up authentically, support one another, and discover they are not alone. If you or someone you know can be supported by our services, please get in touch with us at 520-322-9155.

Myth vs. Reality of Grief

MYTH: Grief follows a predictable timeline, and in time you will "get over it."

REALITY: Grief has no schedule. It can ebb and flow, showing up unexpectedly months or even years after a loss. Continuing forward doesn't mean forgetting—it means learning how to carry the loss while continuing to live and grow.

Everyone's grief journey is unique. There is no "right" way to grieve, and there is no timeline.

If you or someone you know is grieving, offer patience, compassion, and understanding. Sometimes the most meaningful support is simply being present. If you or a family you know could benefit from our services, please contact us. https://bit.ly/4pkPYJp

Grief changes everything—and often, those who are grieving wish others understood a little more about what they're experiencing.

1. Grief doesn't have a timeline.
There is no deadline for healing. Everyone grieves at their own pace.

2. We don't need you to fix it.
Your presence, listening ear, and support mean more than finding the "right" words.

3. We still think about our loved one every day.
Speaking their name and sharing memories can be comforting, not painful.

4. Some days are harder than others.
Grief isn't linear. Milestones, anniversaries, and unexpected reminders can bring emotions to the surface.

5. We haven't moved on—we've learned to carry the loss differently.
Healing doesn't mean forgetting. Love and memories remain part of our lives forever.

If someone you care about is grieving, simply showing up can make a meaningful difference.

What is something you wish others understood about grief? If you or a family you know could benefit from our grieving support services, please contact us: https://bit.ly/4pkPYJp
