Here at Tu Nidito we strive to create a space where children and families feel safe to express how they feel when processing the death of a loved one.

In one of the group nights earlier this year, two of the littles who are sisters, shared a really special moment before going to the "past" to have the best day with their Mom in our Tu Nidito Time Machine. At first they were afraid because they were scared to see their Mom again, but after some encouragement from the volunteers, they were able to share a really special moment together. Both expressed how happy and grateful they were to "go back in time to see Mom". They understood that the Time Machine was not real, but the emotions they felt were. After using the time machine, volunteers shared that those two littles opened up a lot more and shared things about their mother that they had not in the past.
Expression can help our families along their grief journey. Tu Nidito provides the space and opportunity for families to be among those who have experienced something similar.

Every October our Children to Children curriculum commemorates Día de los Mu***os and gives our families the opportunity to honor and remember their loved ones. Each family has a chance to share photos, foods and memories of their person who died.

One of our longstanding volunteers, Nelson Daou, who has been here since 2007 shares his favorite memory from his time at Tu Nidito: “My favorite Tu Nidito memories are the Día de los Mu***os nights. Every year is a beautiful experience. People are so brave and vulnerable sharing their stories, and the items are so meaningful you feel a connection – photos, of course, but also military medals, a doctoral thesis, a father’s jacket that the daughter sleeps with, and all the food. There are still times I’ll think of certain families when I have their special person’s favorite food.”

In October of 2026, all of us at Tu Nidito Children and Family Services are proud to honor the milestone of 30 years serving our community. Our services have evolved over the years, but we continue to be Southern Arizona’s place for grief support. Our continuum of support services is like nothing else in Arizona, and possibly in the country.

Follow along this Week of Giving where we will be sharing memories and stories from our families, volunteers and donors that encompass the last 30 years, but will also highlight the six pillars that our support programs are based on. Throughout their time here at Tu Nidito, we provide children and families the space to remember, express, understand, cope, connect and grow.

We're honored to be featured in the Fall 2026 issue of BizTucson Magazine in recognition of our 30th anniversary! In 1996, we accepted our first clients, and in that year, we supported 12 families. Now we have grown to support 500 families and thousands of individuals annually. No other organization in the country offers the full continuum that Tu Nidito does—with services for families dealing with the diagnosis of serious medical conditions through and after death. All of these programs are provided completely free of charge in both English and Spanish.

This National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims, Tu Nidito's heart is with all of our families and everyone in Southern Arizona whose person has died by violence. We have invited affected Tu Nidito family members to attend Homicide Survivors Inc 's gathering at Brandi Fenton Memorial Park. It is free and open to the entire community. Local survivors will step forward to share their personal stories of resilience. Together, we will honor, remember, and celebrate the lives of our beloved family members and community members.

Today, on National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims, we pause to honor the lives tragically taken from us and to lift up the courage of the survivors who carry their memories forward every single day.

Behind every name is a loved one, a story, and a light that violence can never erase. Today, as a community, we stand together in grief, in resilience, and in solidarity. Your pain is seen, your loved ones are remembered, and you are not alone.
