These words are among the many statements that inspired the illuminated portraits at the heart of Here I Am: Choral Music of Jocelyn Hagen.

Those who had the privilege of experiencing True Concord's premiere of Here I Am know that it is more than a musical work: it is a multimedia symphony, bringing together choir, soprano soloist (Susanna Phillips), treble choir (Tucson Girls Chorus), chamber orchestra, narrators and illuminated portraits to create an immersive celebration of women’s voices, stories and experiences.

What happens when the extraordinary voice of a celebrated opera singer meets the vibrant, contemporary choral music of Jocelyn Hagen?

We’re thrilled to feature Susanna Phillips on Here I Am: Choral Music of Jocelyn Hagen, True Concord’s newest recording.

An acclaimed American soprano, Susanna Phillips has graced the stage of the Metropolitan Opera in more than 100 performances and is a recipient of the Met’s prestigious Beverly Sills Artist Award. Her repertoire spans beloved works by Mozart, Puccini, Strauss, Offenbach, and more.

On Here I Am, Susanna brings her remarkable artistry and expressive voice to Jocelyn Hagen’s music, adding another dimension to her powerful work.

We’re so proud to have her voice as part of this recording and we can’t wait for you to hear it.

This intimate choral excerpt from my multimedia symphony 𝘏𝘌𝘙𝘌 𝘐 𝘈𝘔 is sublimely poignant, and the first time I read the poem by Amanda Lovelace I nearly cried. So many women have trouble speaking up. This work validates and CELEBRATES the voices of women. I’ve now excerpted this fragment from movement 1 so choirs can perform it on their own.
