Kiwanis Club of Troy MI

Kiwanis Club of Troy MI kiwaniscluboftroymi.org Kiwanis was founded in Detroit, Michigan, on January 21, 1915. By 1919, the organization had changed its focus from business to service.

In the early years, Kiwanis clubs focused on business networking, but even then, members were serving the needs of the poor. Today we focus on high school KEY Clubs at Troy Athens and IA East and support them with leadership and fundraising efforts. Our annual events include (but not limited): Grocery deliveries to HAVEN of Pontiac, KEY Club Leadership Summits, KEY Club Career fairs, Troy Daze vol

unteerism, TEEN Su***de Prevention Program events incorporating TROY and CLAWSON middle and high schools and many other monthly events.

At our meeting today, we recognized our outstanding volunteer - Judy Holmes - who assembles our fundraiser raffle baskets each year and does so much for our club to help students.

We were pleased also to have Dr. Rich Machesky - Troy School District Superintendent speak on several topics:
✅️ The current bond school progress in Troy schools.
✅️ The Oakland County Regional Enhancement Millage Proposal that will be voted on August 4. The regional enhancement millage is the only mechanism school districts may use to increase per-pupil funding. Make sure to vote if you live in Oakland County on August 4!! www.OaklandEnhancementMillage.com
If passed - every penny generated would be distributed to all public-school districts and eligible public-school academies in Oakland County

Thank you to Dr Machesky for sharing the knowledge this important work being done for the Troy Schools and the Regional Enhancement Millage Proposal!!!

What a blessing to see how God changes lives and how the community came together today at Grace Centers of Hope. Their 61st house renovation for their village was a beauty. Thanks to Mark Cunningham for the invite!!! It was great to hear from Pastor Darin and Mike McGuinness - Pontiac Mayor how the neighborhood is changing and how lives are being impacted.

Our May 15 annual Harvesting Hope: Healing Begins with US mental health fundraiser brought together our heroes helping others! Great weather and live music by Scott Wrona Jazz helped create a wonderful setting to support youth needing mental health counseling.

Thank you to Jen Peters and the Troy Historic Village for hosting us again this year! You are the best! Thank you to all of our sponsors who are also our heroes in giving back to the community!

Together we raised over $10,000 again to be used towards the KIT (Kiwanis Inspired Teens) Fund that supports students in need of financial assistance for mental health counseling! All the heroes standing beside us throughout the year make this possible. Thanks to Ann O'Neill & Troy School District team for their commitment to guiding our students. Thanks to Autana Family Therapy Center for providing students a safe place to treat the trauma they are experiencing!

Thank you to Ann O'Neill - Troy School District and Colleen Reveley - Autana Family Therapy Center for providing testimonials on the results being seen after KIT Fund process. Their teams are in the trenches helping students and we love them!

Emerging trends being seen in referrals:

• Continued high prevalence of trauma
• Increasing multi-system complexity (family, school, behavioral)
• Persistent need for rapid access to care
• Strong reliance on school partnerships for referrals

Yesterday we participated in the Troy Chamber of Commerce Community Impact Day. Thanks to the Chamber ladies for a great day outing and pairing us up with New Day Foundation for Families. We learned about their financial assistance for families going through cancer.

We assisted New Day Foundation for Families by creating cards for their cancer families. In less than 2 hours we outdid ourselves with creativity and compassion to spread love and hope for those going through tough times.

Thanks to Janeen for her leadership and training for some of us first timers! Lots of laughter and learning!!!
