Since we missed our July outing, we definitely made up for it yesterday with an extra awesome August Dive Outing at JMR Quarry!

A huge thank you to Dive Under Divers for an incredible day filled with scuba, shrimp (Low Country Boil), and a spectacularly good time.

Our September Speaker, Jennifer Morgan from 321 FREEDIVE, will be offering Freediving Workshops that week!

September 9th ~ Intro to Pool Freediving Workshop
9am-12 pm: Pool Intro at Triangle Aquatic
This session will focus on building comfort in the water and developing foundational freediving skills.

Cost: $30/person
Maximum: 15 participants
Prerequisite for the Depth Intro

September 10th ~ Afternoon Depth Intro: Freediving & Safety
1 pm -4 pm at Fantasy Lake Adventure Park
We’ll head to Fantasy Lake for a depth session focused on safety, rescues, equalization, and becoming more confident in the water.

Cost: $50/person
Fantasy Lake registration/waiver & 321FREEDIVE waiver required
Participants in these workshops will also receive a $50 credit toward a future PADI Level 1 Freediver Course with 321FREEDIVE.
Also we’ll have a TON of giveaways from our Partners With Purpose!

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of longtime club member Joe Mills.

Some of you may not have had the opportunity to meet Joe, but he was a kind and dedicated member of the Down Under Divers Club for many years. Joe preferred to stay “behind the scenes,” quietly contributing to the club and always willing to lend a hand.

Many of us will especially remember Joe for his generosity and his skill at slow-smoking a whole hog for our club outings over the years. He would stay up all night, making sure everything was just perfect, and it always was!

We invite everyone to share photos, stories, and memories of Joe here. It would be a wonderful way to honor his memory and celebrate the time we were fortunate to have him as part of our club family.

Thank you Joe. We miss you already.

The Down Under Divers Club has had an awesome August so far and we aren't done yet!

Earlier this month, we had a fantastic presentation from Lisa Mongolia, Executive Director of the History of Diving Museum in Florida. If you haven’t visited the museum yet, definitely stop by the next time you’re diving in the Keys.

We also celebrated a very special milestone birthday for one of our longtime club members Frank Krasovec!

And the fun continues! In just one week, we’ll be heading to JMR Quarry in Blanch for our August Outing where we will finally get to enjoy the incredible Low-Country Boil! We can’t wait to see everyone there!

We are looking forward to tonight's Speaker Lisa Mongelia!

Lisa Mongelia is the Executive Director at the History of Diving Museum located in Islamorada, Florida Keys. She has been an instructor and active member of the dive community for over 48 years. Along with diving, Lisa spent 30 years in law office management and eventually paired her professional career with her passion for diving to join the Museum. Lisa spends her free time with family and friends, scuba diving, hard hat diving, kayaking and biking as well as visiting other museums and cultural events.

We’ll start gathering at Dave & Busters in Cary in their event space at 6:30 PM so you can eat, drink, and connect with fellow divers. You do not need to be a member to join us! We’ll kick off the meeting at 7:15 PM with announcements, then hear from our guest speaker. We hope to see you there!

Have you been wanting to take the next step with Avelo Diving? Now is your chance!

The Avelo Essentials Course will be offered at Fantasy Lake August 14th–17th and taught by Ben Larson. This certification course includes 1.5–2 hours of eLearning, two full dives, and post-dive profile analysis. Upon successful completion, participants will earn their Avelo Essentials certification, allowing them to dive with the Avelo Dive System at any Avelo Dive Center (ADC). The cost of the course is $450.
