Mundy House and History Center of Eastern Lincoln County This page is about the Mundy House and History Center of Eastern Lincoln County and also the Eastern Lincoln Historical Society. R.O.

The Mundy House is one of the few remaining historic houses in eastern Lincoln County, and it stands a local landmark that documents the history of the Mundy family and the development of Denver during the nineteenth century. The Mundy House is a central-hall I house that maintains much of its original architectural integrity. It represents a house form that was ubiquitous in the county during the

last half of the nineteenth and first decade of the twentieth century, but nearly all of these houses have fallen into disrepair by abandonment and neglect or have been substantially altered with artificial siding, replacement windows, and unsympathetic modern additions. Preservation of the Mundy House is necessary for educating people about local history, historic preservation, and architecture. The Mundy family, descendants of Revolutionary War soldier and Methodist minister Jeremiah Mundy (1760-1835), was one of the founding families of Rock Spring Methodist Camp Meeting and Campground in Denver. and Maggie Allen Mundy and family of nine children continued ownership of the house until the 1990s, and the Lincoln County Historical Association (LCHA) acquired the house and property in 2014. The Mundy House has beed carefully and professionally restored to its period of significance, and will be available for community purposes and as the home of the History Center of Eastern Lincoln County. Mundy family gravesites are located at the Denver Community Cemetery behind Denver United Methodist Church in Denver, and Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery. The Mundy House has an herb garden with herbs donated and planted by the East Lincoln Garden Club. The garden enclosure and raised beds were built as Aaron Faile's and Alexander Faile's Eagle Scout projects.
