Hey Friends, This year we will be showing up at the Centerville Day VA. Festivities. We will have two great raffles, one for the humans and one for the fur babies. Look for us with the rescues back near the playground. Going to be pulling out some things that are more holiday oriented. Hope you like them and come on out.

In rescue we so often ask ourselves why particular animals are given up. The ones that confuse us most are the ones that are sweet calm and very interactive with us right away. We know they have been handled lovingly. Why did you get rid of an animal that you love? I found myself wondering that about this sweet pair. They were so eager for pets and love from their foster mom and when they overnighted Sunday before going for surgery my husband (the guy who's afraid of guinea pigs) came up from giving night time lettuce and remarked about how sweet they were. It is a male female pair and my friend and fellow rescue partner Cindy had laughingly asked me if I was sure of their sexes when I remarked that the shelter said they had been together a long time and she had never had babies. Monday when I picked them up to send them off to the vet I took another look and yep thats 100% a boy. Then thick, dark red blood coming from the girl. I tried to convince myself she was in heat. Poor Girley was filled with ovarian and uterine tumors. Things were caught at the very brink of a disastrous outcome. Do we have an answer to why they were given up? Probably, chances are the blood was noted and regardless of weather she was taken to a vet or not. Either way they could not afford the surgery. No one has pigs as sweet as these without loving them very much. Guinea pigs can be very expensive pets. You need to be prepared for bills that can be in the thousands for some surgeries. This lovely pair will be up for adoption soon. Maybe they will find their new home with you.

Friends, Our entire group is so grateful and thrilled at the number of you that showed up on a less than optimal day. Our conversations pre pignic and post pignic about it's future were very different conversations because of you. We needed you and you showed up big time. Please accept a heartfelt thank you.
Now back to business. Send some love for the crew that headed off to the veterinarian this morning for their well checks and surgeries.

We had a great turnout at Pignic today! Here’s a little video from the veggie eating contest with MGPR sanctuary pig Thurston surprisingly leaving the competition in his veggie dust!
