When a well-wisher donated a 10,000-litre water tank to the community in Kakuma, there was one problem.

There was no concrete stand to put it on.
But they did not wait.

They looked at what they had; some wood, a little expertise, and a lot of determination! They built a semi-permanent stand to use.

It may not be perfect. But it works.
And now, that tank is helping provide water for their small community farm where different crops are being grown to help feed families. A survival tactic especially with the reduced food aid in the refugee camp.

This is what we keep seeing in Kakuma:
People who don't wait for someone to come and fix everything.
People who start with what they have.
People who turn little into something bigger.

This resilient community could do so much more with the right support.

A proper tank stand and solar-powered pumps would give them greater access to water, allowing them to expand their farming and grow more food for their community.

Hope Farm recently welcomed a team from the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO), in partnership with the Turkana County Government, for hands-on training in climate-smart agriculture.

The farmers learned how to intercrop cowpeas and sorghum to improve soil health, increase yields, and strengthen food security. The team also conducted soil and water testing to help identify the best crop varieties and fertilizer recommendations for the farm.

By combining research with practical farming, we’re equipping the farmers with the knowledge they need to build resilient livelihoods in the face of climate change.

What began as a farm on land many believed was impossible to cultivate has become a living classroom for students from across Kenya. In partnership with the Turkana County Department of Crop and Livestock, Hope Farm is now hosting 17 interns from universities across the country, including Nairobi and other regions.

These students are learning directly from the women and men of the Hope Farm in Lodwar about sustainable farming in arid lands, climate adaptation and poultry farming.

This is generational transformation. Hope Farm beneficiaries who once faced doubt about what could be achieved in Turkana are now teaching future agricultural professionals and helping shape solutions for a changing climate.

The Nazarene Church in Kakuma has received tailoring machines that will now help offer tailoring and trade skills classes within the camp.

More than equipment, these machines represent dignity, opportunity, and hope for women and youth seeking to build sustainable futures.

We recently visited the New Scent Center in Tala and spent time with the incredible girls at the rescue center who are full of strength, resilience, and hope.

Right now, the center is building a much-needed dining hall for the New Scent Education Center, where the students will have their meals in a safe and structured environment. This space will be more than just a place to eat;it will foster community, and a sense of normalcy for the children each day.

New Scent is a center dedicated to the restoration and rehabilitation of girls who have survived sexual abuse, offering them a safe space to heal, grow, and rebuild their futures.
