Halcyon Home, Inc.

Halcyon Home, Inc. Halcyon Home is a refuge for domestic violence survivors.

We provide free and confidential residential and non-residential services to adults and their dependent children who are in abusive relationships.

A major part of who we serve are children who are secondary victims of domestic violence. We watch children become the most resilient version of themselves the moment they enter the Halcyon Home program. Our child advocate and shelter manager provide support groups to those in shelter. These simple words below are a powerful reminder of the impact a safe, supportive environment can have on the women we serve and their children. đź’ś

A mother: “He never used to talk before he got here and now he talks to you because you talk to him, he has been so different since we came here”

“I’m so grateful for my bed and a safe place, just being around yall”

“You are so calm and soothing”

“It’s so fun here”

Kid shouting: “we got baby dolls, we got baby dolls, we got baby dolls”

Kid with his hands lifted to the sky: “thank you thank you thank you for my toys, my dinosaur and my truck thank you I’m so happy thank you”

Another kid after support group: “I can’t wait to show my mom, she’s going to be so happy”

Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating the ribbon cutting and new location of Treehouse Children’s Advocacy Center!

Since opening in 2011, Treehouse has provided critical, full-time services to children and families across our community—helping ensure families receive the support they need close to home during some of life’s most difficult moments.

Guided by a mission to coordinate a child-focused, multidisciplinary response to child abuse, Treehouse continues to make a lasting impact through advocacy, protection, and healing for children and families throughout our region.

We are honored to celebrate this exciting new chapter alongside Executive Director Heather Irvin, their dedicated team, board members, supporters, and community partners. Congratulations to Treehouse Children’s Advocacy Center on their beautiful new space and continued commitment to serving our community!

Children see and feel more than we sometimes realize. When there is violence at home, it can leave children feeling confused, scared, angry, or responsible for things that were never their fault.

Our Child Advocacy Program is here to help them heal. Through counseling, support groups, play, and creative activities like arts and crafts, kids have a safe place to share their feelings in their own way, learn that what happened was not their fault, and begin to feel like kids again.

We want every child to know they deserve safety, love, and a calm home.

Mother’s Day can feel very different for moms who have lived through domestic violence.

Some are starting over in a new place. Some are learning how to feel safe again. Some are just trying to get through each day for their kids.

We want to say this to every mother rebuilding her life after abuse:
You are brave.
You are strong.
You are doing something incredibly hard, even when it doesn’t feel like it.

Around here, we see moms every day who are choosing safety, healing, and stability for their families. We’re here to listen, to support, and to walk with them as they take each next step.

If you’re a mom who needs someone safe to talk to, or you know one who does, our support groups and counseling are here for you:

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and it’s important to say that Domestic violence doesn’t just leave bruises on the body. It can leave deep wounds on the heart and mind too.

Survivors often carry anxiety, depression, shame, fear, or nightmares long after the abuse has stopped. Healing those invisible hurts is a big part of feeling truly safe again.

That’s why we offer trauma-informed counseling and support groups. In these spaces, survivors can talk openly in their own time, learn healthy ways to cope, and start to believe that peace is possible again.

Reaching out for help is a sign of courage, not weakness. If you or someone you care about is struggling, you can learn more here: https://www.halcyonhome.org/support-groups-counseling

Healing after domestic violence takes time, care, and safe people. You don’t have to figure it all out by yourself.

Our confidential support groups and counseling services are here for survivors who are carrying fear, grief, anger, or confusion after abuse. In these spaces, you can talk openly, be listened to without judgment, and learn tools to cope and move forward.

Our team uses trauma-informed care, which simply means we understand how trauma affects the body, mind, and heart, and we respond with patience, compassion, and respect.

Reaching out for support is a brave step, not a sign of weakness. If you’re ready to talk, or just want to see what’s available, you can start here: https://www.halcyonhome.org/support-groups-counseling
