A major part of who we serve are children who are secondary victims of domestic violence. We watch children become the most resilient version of themselves the moment they enter the Halcyon Home program. Our child advocate and shelter manager provide support groups to those in shelter. These simple words below are a powerful reminder of the impact a safe, supportive environment can have on the women we serve and their children. đź’ś
A mother: “He never used to talk before he got here and now he talks to you because you talk to him, he has been so different since we came here”
“I’m so grateful for my bed and a safe place, just being around yall”
“You are so calm and soothing”
“It’s so fun here”
Kid shouting: “we got baby dolls, we got baby dolls, we got baby dolls”
Kid with his hands lifted to the sky: “thank you thank you thank you for my toys, my dinosaur and my truck thank you I’m so happy thank you”
Another kid after support group: “I can’t wait to show my mom, she’s going to be so happy”
