We are preparing now for girls who will run in December.

The need is urgent.

In Tanzania's Mara Region, the cutting season comes with the December rains. Every other year, elders set the dates, and girls — some as young as nine — are registered to be cut. For most, it means the end of school and the beginning of a marriage they never agreed to.

2026 is one of those years.

Some of them run. And whether anyone is ready to catch them gets decided months before she ever takes off running.

That's what today is.

Shelter has to be arranged before she needs it. Fuel has to be in the vehicle before the call comes at 4 in the morning. Schools have to be lined up for January. By December, we're already out of time.

We work through the Catholic Diocese of Musoma and partner safe houses — not a network we built, but one that's been in those villages for generations. A teacher notices a girl is in danger. She calls the diocese. We move.

This season, we're preparing for 450 girls.

$40,000. That's $89 per girl.

On 19 June, in Tarime, Tanzania, our Regional Director, Beryl Aidi, together with our Clinical Psychologist, Winnie Orodi, represented Lulu-Afrika at the Cross-Border Anti-FGM Task Force meeting.
This marked Lulu-Afrika's first participation in this important regional forum.
The meeting brought together partners committed to strengthening cross-border collaboration to end female ge***al mutilation (FGM) and protect girls and women across the region.

Two significant milestones made the occasion especially meaningful:

• Lulu-Afrika was officially welcomed as a partner in the Cross-Border Anti-FGM Task Force.

• The establishment of a Cross-Border FGM Consortium was endorsed, with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) scheduled for the end of July.

Ending FGM requires strong partnerships, shared commitment, and coordinated action across borders. We are proud to be part of this growing movement and look forward to contributing to lasting change for communities across the region.

This is just the beginning.

Last week, Beryl Aidi, Regional Director, and our Clinical Psychologist represented Lulu Afrika at the Cross-Border Anti-FGM Task Force meeting in Tarime, Tanzania marking our first participation.

It was truly enlightening to engage with organizations working tirelessly to end FGM. Beyond the shared learning, the meeting led to two key strategic developments: Lulu Afrika was formally welcomed as a partner organization, and CSO members unanimously endorsed the formation of a Cross-Border FGM Consortium, with an MoU set for signing on 23 July 2026.

Collaboration remains at the heart of sustainable impact. Together, we are shaping a future free from FGM. đź’™

At Lulu Afrika, impact is at the heart of everything we do. During our visit to Gladkids Center, we had the privilege of gifting the school two pairs of football kits—an investment not just in sport, but in teamwork, discipline, and confidence among the students. Lulu Afrika was represented by one of the directors, Leakey Odero, whose presence reflected our continued commitment to community engagement.

We were also honored to be joined by Miss University Kenya, who took time to engage and inspire the learners, encouraging them to stay focused, work hard, and believe in their dreams. Moments like these remind us that when we show up for our communities, we help shape brighter futures.
