A lot of parents carry quiet guilt about what their kids have seen. The argument in the kitchen. The tone they didn't mean to use. The week things were cold and everybody could feel it.
Here's what's worth knowing. Your kids were never going to learn marriage from a flawless example, and it wouldn't have helped them much if they had. A marriage with no visible failure teaches children that love is for people who don't struggle. What actually forms them is watching two people get it wrong and then do something about it.
They need to see the apology. The going back into the room. The parent who says I was wrong, plainly, without adding a defense to the end of it. That's the part that teaches them how covenant actually holds, and it's the part they'll reach for when it's their turn.
Scripture never gave us a family that had it together. It gave us God repeatedly restoring people who kept failing Him, and told us to teach our children as we sit at home and walk along the road (Deuteronomy 6:6-7). What they need to see in your house is the same thing God has shown you. Not perfection. Faithfulness that keeps coming back.
So let them see the repair, not just the rupture. That's the lesson.
What have your kids seen you repair?
