Terrell ISD teacher Heather Ray has been named one of three finalists for Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year!

Mrs. Ray was surprised with the exciting news this morning, along with an incredible gift from our faithful donor and community partner, Platinum Ford: a brand-new bronco.

Huge Congratulations are in order for Furlough Middle School Science teacher, Heather Ray on being named Region 10 Secondary Teacher of the Year! Heather's creativity, passion, and out of the box approach to her classroom earned her this highly distinguished and sought after award.

Region 10, is one of the largest regions in the state, servicing nearly 900,000 students and includes 60,000 teachers. Heather is now one of 20 secondary teachers in the running for Texas Teacher of the Year.

On behalf of the Terrell ISD Excellence Foundation, congratulations Mrs. Ray. Your community is incredibly proud of you. Keep up the EXCELLENT work.

Top 5 and 10 in the Nation 🏆

Terrell High School students are on the rise in Portland this week. The Excellence Foundation sent four students to the Educators Rising National Competition where they all placed in the Top 10 in the Nation.

Emily Bunch and Shelby Kuban placed Top 5 in Teacher Created Material and Tahili Miranda and
Berenice Caldrone finished Top 10 in PK Spanish Literature.

These four students are in the Terrell ISD's 'Grow your Own' program, a program designed to recruit and equip students and current non-degreed school staff to become fully certified teachers. Emily Bunch, who was also the 2026 Terrell High School Valedictorian, currently has a letter of intent for a teaching position at Terrell ISD once she graduates with her degree and teaching certification from Texas A&M University.

Congratulations to these outstanding students and future educators!

Harvest time! The gardeners at Dr. Wood Elementary have been busy enjoying the fruits (and vegetables) of their labor in their campus garden. The Excellence Foundation was proud to award a grant benefiting the campus garden this spring and looks forward to new growth next year!

There is no better way to end the school year than by surprising teachers and students with grant awards! We were proud to award a record amount of student grants this cycle allowing students to attend campus and competitions from Texas, to Portland, to Washington D.C.

None of these grants would be possible without the generous support of donors and community partners. Thank you for investing in our students and schools.

Mistakes happen - keep reading!

Gilbert Willie Elementary received a grant in the Fall for a campus-wide bookclub experience with "The World According to Humphrey." Educators recorded each chapter so families could follow along at home. Not every take was smooth sailing...

Cutting into Science! Terrell High School Biology students went beyond the textbook and dove deep into shark anatomy this week. This hands-on shark dissection experience allowed students to identity organ systems, connect classroom concepts to actual anatomy, and gain a deeper understanding of marine life.
