Pearl was adopted from the Harker Heights Animal Shelter the night before she was to be put down. Pearl lived with us the last three years of her life and in her honor we have taken in other dogs that in some minds were less then desirable and have given them a new lease on life. Most of the dogs we take in at Pearl’s Place are;
Code Red on the last ours of their lives
Dogs with skin issues. Dogs

that have been in the shelter for long periods of time
Senior dogs that aren’t wanted
Dogs with broken bones that need orthopedic surgery
Hospice dogs needing a place to live their last days

A morning full of stopping over population.

Every time, I hear of someone having a litter of puppies it makes me cringe.

Oh they are purebred!! Ok can you tell me what the breed standard is for that breed? How are the temperaments? Are the parents working dogs and mentally stable? Are you willing to microchip and take back ever puppy you sell?

I know this sounds harsh, but I once raised dogs. Trust me to do it right is a big responsibility. Spaying and neutering is also part of it.

When, we consider taking in a rescue dog one of the largest considerations is do we have a spay and neuter appointment available, quickly. No oops litters on our watch.

In 2025, we were responsible for spay/neutering 199 dogs/cats. So far in 2026, we are at 75.

Please be responsible, spay and neuter your pets.

His boy arrived here this morning and he was having a good time out in the large exercise pen checking things out.

I know its hard to tell by pictures but this guy would be considered smaller being 15 #. We don't know much about him, other than he was a stray, did his time and then we offered to take him in.

Hunter has been vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed and has an appointment on Monday to be neutered.

If you are looking for a smaller, sweet, 2-3 years old, fully Vetted dogs this boy might just be the one for you.

Jack the Red Heeler.

This boy was found on the side of the road last year in a small plastic crate in the heat. Yet, he is as cool as a cucumber.

Brit claims someone trained the Heeler out of him because he is a very laid back, chill kind of guy.

He really rather be the only dog in the house. His last home he had a small yorkie for a brother, but can be selective with larger dogs that want to be in his face. If you know, you know.

Its hard to believe this guy hasn't really had any interest. He did go to a home once for a few days, but even though they were told, to give him time to settle in and his dislike of larger pushy dogs, he was put in a bad situation.

So, here he is back with us. We believe he will find his forever home and we are loving him until that time comes.

If you would like to only have one dog, to be your best friend, running buddy, movie watching buddy, then Jack is your boy.

If you love a Heeler and want to come take him for a walk you are welcome to do that also when it cools down a bit.

If you know a Heeler lover that is looking for a single dog, please share Jack with them. He is fully vetted, Heartworm negative, dewormed, microchipped, vaccinated and as you can see a little on the plump side.
