Today, The Big Gay Radio Show remembers and honors Matthew Wayne Shepard, who died on October 12th, 1998, at just 21 years old, following a brutal attack in Laramie, Wyoming. 🏳️‍🌈

Matthew’s murder became a defining moment in LGBTQIA+ history, bringing national attention to anti-LGBTQIA+ violence and the importance of hate crime protections.

28 years later, Matthew’s story remains an important reminder of the violence and discrimination our community has faced, and why we must continue sharing and preserving LGBTQIA+ history.

Today, we remember Matthew Shepard, honor his life, and stand with everyone who has experienced violence simply for being who they are. 💚🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️📻

We’re excited to announce that Chris Gorman and Esme Russell will be hosting The GayMazing Race on Sunday, November 8th, plus we have a discount code for your registration!

Grab your favorite teammate and get ready to race through , following mystery clues, visiting local businesses, and completing challenges that will put your teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving skills to the test!

And don’t worry, you don’t have to be an athlete to participate. Just bring a teammate, a sense of adventure, and be ready to have some fun!

The race kicks off at 7th + Grove | Restaurant and Lounge| Lunch Dinner Brunch, with the first wave starting at 9:30 AM and the second at 10 AM. Teams will check in beforehand at 1920 YBOR, which will also serve as the event’s headquarters and host a family-friendly Vendor Village with local businesses and activities for the kids.

After the race, stick around for a post-race celebration at 7th + Grove, featuring a live DJ and an optional $45 brunch buffet with a mimosa or mocktail! Brunch reservations should be made by November 1st.

We’re looking forward to hosting this event and seeing everyone come out for a day of fun, friendly competition, and supporting Tampa Bay’s LGBTQIA+ community!

Huge thank you to Shane McCabe, host of the Necessary Pursuit Podcast, for joining us on The Big Gay Radio Show today!

We talked about the creation of Necessary Pursuit, winning last years Creative Loafing Tampa Bay Best of the Bay for Best Podcast, and what’s next for the show. We also celebrated the start of LGBTQIA+ History Month, with Esme Russell sharing her experience as one of the first transgender students in Hillsborough County.

We also covered St Pete Pride’s $289,000 fundraising shortfall, Trump’s latest comments on Iran, JD Vance telling Florida Senate candidate Angie Nixon that she ‘doesn’t belong in America,’ counterfeit Ozempic, a memorial bench found in Bermuda two years after Hurricane Helene, and more.

POV: life has been LIFE-ING… but in the best way. 🥹✨

Life has been so busy lately, and I have SO much to share with y’all soon.

But today? I just need to say this:

I’M REALLY FREAKING PROUD OF MYSELF. 🥹

Today I did my mental health therapy session while getting back in the gym for the first time in what feels like a whole YEAR. 😂💪🏽🧠

Healing AND gains at the same time?!
Okayyyy, growth. 😂

Between continuing to grow Project No Labels 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️, building my new life insurance agency, balancing my time with my beautiful little family and our puppies 🥹🐶❤️, and just trying to become the best version of ME… life has been moving FAST.

And for once, I want to stop for a second and actually acknowledge how far I’ve come.

To my friends, my loved ones, and every single person who continues to support me, Project No Labels, and this next chapter of my life:

THANK YOU. Truly. ❤️

And if nobody has told you lately:

DON’T. GIVE. UP. ON. YOURSELF.

Your comeback doesn’t have to be loud.
