Earlier this month, we had the opportunity to take .multicultural.society on a downtown public art tour, and we had the best time exploring the downtown core together! 🎨✨

From murals to public installations, we shared stories behind the artwork and talked about how collaborations come together between artists, organizations, businesses, and community partners to activate public spaces in meaningful ways.

It’s always exciting to connect with students and share how public art can shape culture, create dialogue, and strengthen community. Thank you to the UWT Milgard Multicultural Society for spending the afternoon with us and engaging so thoughtfully with the work and the stories behind it!

The online auction is still going!!! 🛵💨

Here are some words from and , featured above, on their process and inspiration with their pieces!

Curtis Ashby: "This piece highlights six duck species that can be found throughout the Pacific Northwest, including the bufflehead, goldeneye, wood duck, and others that many people may pass by without knowing their names or noticing their beauty. By bringing these birds into focus, I hope to encourage viewers to become more aware of the wildlife that exists in our own neighborhoods, parks, wetlands, and shorelines.”

Jorge 'Chief Mota': "Many of my works revolve around storytelling and Indigenous iconography. At the beginning of my journey, my focus was on creating imagery that brought visibility to marginalized communities, with the goal of promoting inclusivity and empowerment. While that mission remains central to my style, my recent work continues to incorporate Indigenous iconography while also exploring themes of emotional and social connection, with a strong focus on how people relate to one another and the importance of community in the face of ongoing social challenges.”

This auction will be used to support Spaceworks Tacoma's programming that will uplift artists and bussinesses. 🎨
