New Woolworth Window installation! 🌳

Eleven women artists ranging in age from fifty to eighty-seven attend class at Becky Frehse’s Studio B every week. 🎨

They have created these images of women singing in a wide variety of media including watercolor, acrylic, pastel, colored pencil, watercolor pencil, and mixed media with collage. 🖌

The artists were inspired by themes such as women’s empowerment celebrated through singing together, building intergenerational community by creating art together, and the ancient belief, in some cultures, that music and songs can be heard coming from trees. 🌲

Woven among bare Madrona trees, the women emerge in hums and whispers as the chorus rises together in song. 🎶

Former Spaceworks Tacoma Director Heather Joy is continuing to make us proud. 🤗

This fall, Pierce College District WA is featuring Heather’s video artwork, Look Up, on display at both the Fort Steilacoom and Puyallup campuses. The four-minute piece explores the complicated relationship between people and the landscapes we shape, alter, and inhabit. 🌳

Heather’s work has always invited us to slow down, pay attention, and see the world a little differently – something she also brought to her leadership at Spaceworks. We're thrilled to see her creativity reaching new audiences and sparking important conversations. ☁️

South 11th and Fawcett came alive on September 19 as Tacoma’s creative and small business community gathered for an afternoon of music, food, shopping, and connection. ✨️

The event celebrated the openings of Civic Roasters, Hive Provisions, and Tacoma Knife Sharpening & Mercantile, all Spaceworks Tacoma alumni. Their new storefronts represented another exciting milestone in their entrepreneurial journeys and highlighted the continued growth of Tacoma’s creative business community. 🎉

While the afternoon centered around the three new businesses, the celebration also highlighted the other small businesses on South 11th. McCoy Kids, Lauda, Ninth Te****le Tattoo and Buzzerd's Barber Shop each brought their own unique offerings to the block, from curated toys and stationery to custom tattoos and barbering services. Together, these businesses showcased the creativity and variety that make Tacoma’s neighborhood business districts so vibrant. 🫂

It was more than a celebration of three new storefronts. It was a reminder of what can happen when local entrepreneurs invest in their ideas, neighborhoods, and community. By coming together to celebrate these businesses and the seven local businesses featured throughout the event, South 11th offered a snapshot of the creativity, collaboration, and entrepreneurial spirit that continue to shape Tacoma. 🤩

Thank you to the local artists and makers who tabled at the event: Turn of the Centuries, Millrich Woodworks, Rosie Casey Studio, Beau's Bites, Defiant Candle Co., Crow&Iris, Behrer Woods and Skybox Skincare Bar. Thank you DJ Gingersnap for bringing the amazing beats.

We'll be at Kaleidoscope today! 🤩

Kaleiodscope kicks off the 25th anniversary of Tacoma Arts Month, with a full gallery show, performances, art displays, and community activities throughout the library. 🖼

Spaceworks Tacoma will be having a community mural project during the event, facilitated by Lourdes. You are invited to paint! 🖌

We will also have Envelop[e] Tacoma set up, which is a public art project celebrating Tacoma's heart. You can pick a card and write or draw your love note to Tacoma and slip it into one of the colorful envelopes on the wall where attendees can pull and look at all of them. ✉️

Happy Tacoma Arts Month! 🎨

Kaleidoscope opens the 25th anniversary of Tacoma Arts Month with a full day of art, music, and community at the Tacoma Public Library Main Branch – this Saturday, October 3, from 12 to 4 PM. 🤩

The library transforms into a citywide showcase, with live performances rotating through the Community Hub and Living Room all afternoon, a group show, art displays and workshops, and hands-on activities from local arts and cultural organizations spread throughout the building. The 253, a group exhibition of Tacoma artists, opens in Handforth Gallery the same day. 🖼

Be sure to stay after and connect with other artists during the Artist Trust social hour in the Handforth Gallery from 4 PM – 5:30 PM. ✨️

Whether you're stopping by for a performance, browsing the art on the walls, or just soaking in the energy, something is happening in nearly every room. Free and open to all ages. 🖌

What a way to welcome a new business to downtown Tacoma! ✨

On September 11, we celebrated the grand opening of SheWorks in historic Old City Hall and we couldn't be more excited to see this space buzzing with new energy.

Founded by Ashley Whitney and Paddy Kay Lei, SheWorks brings coworking, business resources, community, and flexible childcare together in a space designed to support women and families as they build what’s next. 🫂

We’re especially proud to celebrate this milestone as part of the Spaceworks alumni community. Watching entrepreneurs take an idea, put in the work, and ultimately open their doors is exactly why we do what we do. 🤩

Congratulations, Ashley and Paddy! We’re thrilled to see SheWorks officially open and adding another brilliant idea to Tacoma’s creative and small business landscape. 💛
