GRACE - Giving and Receiving Assistance for our Community's Essentials

GRACE - Giving and Receiving Assistance for our Community's Essentials GRACE stands for Giving and Receiving Assistance for our Community's Essentials for Summit residents in need.

GRACE stands for Giving and Receiving Assistance for our Community’s Essentials. We start with the philosophy that our community’s resources can fill any need in our community. We are most well known for our weekly fresh food pantry where people facing food and financial insecurity can pick up nutrient-dense food, personal care items, and household supplies. On average, 400 households currently re

ly on this distribution of items that are culturally relevant and valuable as the GRACE community indicates. At our distribution, we leverage and showcase our local partnerships to offer health education, dental and medical screenings; enable security and empowerment through seminars and personalized counsel on impact-driven matters such as tenants’ rights, immigration, nutrition, and benefits; and provide life-enhancing STEAM, music, and visual arts enrichment. Beyond distribution, we advocate generally and specifically for the members of the GRACE community: at school, in our City, in a healthcare setting, and with their employers and landlords. We find recipients for donors of goods, large and small, from baby toys to washing machines. We also find specific items for individuals and families who cannot afford what they need in order to live a healthful and productive life within our community. We procure bicycles to facilitate smooth travel to work, laptops for college students, and up-to-date tools for workers’ success in a competitive marketplace.

When Summit Police Sgt. Maggiulli noticed one of our seniors needed new slipper socks with treads after a fall, we delivered a dozen pairs the next day with his groceries. A connected community thrives together.

Today we honor our Development Director’s four and a half years of service to GRACE. Ellen de Havilland built the runway for our expansive growth of potential and impact from our days of the drive by service to an established network of consistent care. Always putting together the best process with the best team members, Ellen led visionary conversations, wrote successful grants, threw the best parties in town, and truly saw each person for the good they contribute to the community. We hope Ellen’s next chapter is as beautiful for herself and her loved ones as the one she created for us. Thank you, Ellen.

“It’s been lovely to witness the positive impact GRACE has on the Summit community. The people, stories, kindness and love are things I will never forget. I hope the survey results turn into opportunities for GRACE to serve this community greater than you already have.”
