Overlook Auxiliary

The Overlook Auxiliary is 501(c)(3) volunteer organization that supports Overlook Medical Center with volunteering and fundraising efforts.

The Overlook Auxiliary, an independent organization made up of men and women of all ages, supports the medical center by providing much needed hands-on and creative fundraising. Our efforts provide many of the extras that make Overlook Medical Center unique in our area. The volunteer commitment of each Auxiliary volunteer may be achieved either by working as an individual or as a member of a Twig.

The Auxiliary's focus is on fundraising and volunteering. Our Gift Shop and Bloom located in the Medical Center's Main Lobby, is staffed by our volunteers and is popular with patients, staff and the local community. The Auxiliary also runs a biennial Kitchen Tour which features several of the area's fabulous, private kitchens. The "Art at Overlook" program provides local New Jersey artists an opportunity to exhibit in the public areas of the medical center. Our very popular Annual Spring Luncheon features a variety of interesting guest speakers. Additionally there are bus trips, themed parties and gatherings, all creating opportunities for Auxiliary members to come together socially. The Auxiliary supports many important medical center related programs including Child Life, Hospice/Homecare, Oncology Center, Palliative Care, Pastoral Care, and Social Services. We also fund several nursing scholarships for deserving candidates on an annual basis. The Auxiliary has contributed funding for several large building projects such as the new Caregiver's Center, the Emergency Department and the Pediatric Playroom.

Stop by Atlantic Health Overlook Medical Center to see our newest exhibits featuring CK Komek and artists from the New Jersey Art Association. You’ll find more than 70 pieces displayed on the main level (5) of the medical center.

The Mother Daughter Twig wrapped up their first year with an incredibly thoughtful contribution to Atlantic Health Overlook’s Elder Life patients living with dementia. They donated baby dolls to support comfort, connection, and emotional well‑being — a gesture that brings real comfort to those we serve.

For many dementia patients, baby dolls can:

- Reduce anxiety and restlessness
- Encourage nurturing behaviors and provide a sense of purpose
- Spark communication and social interaction
- Offer soothing tactile comfort
- Evoke warm memories tied to parenthood

We’re so proud of this twig for leading with compassion and creativity. Their generosity is already bringing calm, joy, and reassurance to our Elder Life patients. 💙

We are thrilled to shine a spotlight on our wonderful Gift Shop & Bloom Manager, Tricia, who was recently caught in a "Kindness Catch" by a fellow team member! 🌟

In a moment that truly exemplifies our 10 Tenets of Kindness, Tricia went above and beyond to help a nurse midwife who was exhausted after being with her patient for over 24 hours. With the new parking vendor no longer accepting cash, this nurse found herself without a credit card and in need of assistance. Without a second thought, Tricia offered her own personal credit card to ensure the nurse could process her parking payment and get on her way. 💖

This compassionate act comes as no surprise to us; Tricia leads with a big heart every single day, embodying kindness, respect, and support within our community.

Thank you, Tricia, for inspiring us all and for reminding us to always be there for one another! You truly make a difference! 🙌💐

This past May, we celebrated Mental Health awareness across our Atlantic Health Overlook Medical Center community — and what a celebration it was!

Behavioral Health held a daytime Mental Health Fair, where different departments hosted tables packed with information on their services available. Add in some fun activities and giveaways, and it made learning about mental wellness even more engaging! 🎉

For our incredible evening crew, our Behavioral Health team made rounds to units throughout Atlantic Health Overlook, spreading awareness and connecting team members with valuable resources.

Joining the team on their rounds were members of our Jr. Twigs, who offered team members sweet and savory treats from the snack cart! 🍿🍬 These goodies were generously funded by our Livingston Jr. Twig through proceeds from an exercise class fundraiser. Though they couldn't join us in person (prom night called! 💃), other dedicated Jr. Twig members stepped up to help.

A heartfelt thank you to our Behavioral Health team for creating space for meaningful conversation and connection, and to our wonderful Jr. Twigs for their generosity and support.

Did you know that nearly 19% of operating room waste is blue sterile wrap?

SU Twig 25 does — and they’re doing something about it.

This year, our Sewing Twig has created over 250 Blue‑Wrap Bags from recycled medical blue wrap, a strong polypropylene material usually thrown away after protecting surgical instruments.

Instead of becoming waste, these bags are now helping patients in Medical Imaging and Pre‑Admission Testing. 💙♻️

🤝 A Beautiful Transition, A Beautiful Gift 🤝

This month, our outgoing 2025-26 Board and incoming 2026-27 Board came together for their annual transition meeting — and made it extra special by giving back together!

As a group, the boards presented the team at Elder Life with items straight from their wish list:

🧵 Lacing cards
🧥 Fidget aprons
🎾 Stress balls
🔍 Magnifying glasses

These simple items make a big difference in the daily lives of the residents Elder Life serves, providing comfort, sensory engagement, and a little extra independence.

This past Mother's Day, the Chatham Jr. Twig hosted a Burn and Bond mother-daughter exercise class — and raised an incredible $690 in the process!

Thanks to these funds, the Overlook Auxiliary was able to purchase 63 pairs of sweatpants and 48 t-shirts for patients who don't have clothes to wear when leaving the hospital.

You might wonder — how does that happen? There are more reasons than you'd think:

• Clothing is sometimes cut off or damaged during emergency treatment or trauma care
• Patients may arrive by ambulance without time to grab belongings
• Some patients, especially older adults, may not have family or friends nearby to bring them a change of clothes
• Patients coming from nursing homes or living alone may not have access to extra clothing
• Some patients lack stable housing or financial resources for basic necessities

Thanks to the generosity of the Chatham Jr. Twig and everyone who joined the class, these patients will be able to leave the hospital with dignity and comfort. 💛

Each year, Hospital Week is a national celebration dedicated to honoring the hardworking, compassionate individuals who keep our hospitals running every day. It's a time to recognize and express gratitude to ALL hospital team members — from nurses and doctors to support staff and everyone in between.

This year, during the week of May 10th, the Overlook Auxiliary and our Junior Twigs were proud to show our appreciation in a big way! 💛

Our Junior Twigs crafted 3 beautiful, festive banners filled with heartfelt messages of gratitude for all hospital workers.

They also handwrote personal 500 thank-you notes and tucked them into goody bags filled with fun treats — popcorn, Oreos, M&Ms, Swedish Fish, and granola bars — which were handed out to team members at the Gift Shop & Bloom.

On Friday, Overlook Auxiliary Board Members surprised team members with popsicles! While they waited for their popsicles, they had the chance to enjoy a display of beautifully decorated kindness rocks, made by the Gill St. Bernard Jr. Twig — each one a little token of thanks to take home.

To every Overlook hospital team member: thank you for everything you do, each and every day. You are seen, appreciated, and celebrated! 🌟
