BARRKLI was created by Kristina Howley after many years of working with many wonderful groups in the animal rescue industry. “My initial goal was to build a small team of support for the local NYACC shelter dogs and eventually expand to help as many dogs as I can. We are now focused on dogs in high kill shelters at risk of euthanasia. One thing I have learned over the many years in rescue, is that

the most successful rescuers have accepted that we can't save them all but the ones we do save we certainly can give our all too. My motto is and will continue to be "one dog at a time". 🎸 ELVIS is sweet, charming, and just a little bit reserved. He can take a little time to warm up especially around the bigger pups, but once he’s comfortable, his playful, cuddly personality comes shining through! 💙

At just 5 months old and 30 lbs, Matteo is the sweetest snuggly boy looking for his forever family.
This gentle guy LOVES cuddling up with his person, especially when belly scratches are involved! He’s already housebroken, crate trained, and well mannered, and he’s calm and happy at home.
Matteo can be a little nervous and skittish outside in the city, so he’s looking for a quiet suburban neighborhood and a patient family who will help him slowly build his confidence. He does best when introductions happen at his own pace when he’s feeling unsure.
Once Matteo feels comfortable, you’ll discover a loyal, happy, silly buddy who will melt your heart. He plays well with other dogs and is great at matching their energy. And those puppy eyes… plus the little paw he gives you? Everyone falls in love with Matteo!

They made it through the night. But they aren’t out of the woods yet.
Just look at how tiny they are. 💔 One of these babies weighs barely over half a pound.

These three little kittens need constant care right now. They’re on multiple medications, including antibiotics and eye ointment, and they’re getting Nutri-Cal kitten formula to help give their tiny bodies what they need.
Every feeding. Every medication. Every hour of care is giving them another chance.

They’re fighting. And we’re fighting right alongside them. ❤️
Their care was completely unexpected, and the medical expenses are already adding up.

Meet Memphis 🐾

3 months old | 10 lbs | Hound/Chihuahua mix

Memphis is a sweet and curious little pup who may need a little time to come out of his shell but once he feels comfortable, his playful personality shines! ❤️

He loves exploring new places and is getting used to all the sights and sounds of city life. He’s a big fan of cuddles, loves attention from his people, and after playtime, he’s always ready for a good nap. 🥰

Memphis is doing well with potty pad training and is working on building his confidence going potty outside. And nighttime? He’s a little superstar, he peacefully sleeps through the night! 🌙🐶

This sweet boy is looking for someone who will give him a little patience, lots of love, and the chance to show just how special he is.

Someone dropped a box on our director’s porch.
Inside were three extremely sick kittens. 💔

Why do people do this?

These babies are incredibly sick, and they clearly needed help. We’re an animal rescue, and we aren’t going to turn our backs on three tiny lives who desperately need someone to step up. ❤️

So now we have three kittens to nurse back to health, and it’s going to cost a fortune.

We didn’t ask for this, but we’re going to do everything we can to save them. ❤️

💔 They didn’t ask for much. Just a chance.
Layla and Wilson are two dogs who found their way to BARRK, and neither could have known just how much they would need us.

Layla is a 16-year-old sweetheart who was surrendered to the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter because she was old. A 16-year-old pup should not have to spend her golden years in a shelter, so we pulled her and gave her a safe place to land. Layla has bilateral glaucoma and needs daily eye drops and ongoing monitoring. She also has mammary tumors. She deserves to spend the rest of her life feeling safe, loved, and cared for.

Wilson came to us with no known medical issues, but we recently discovered that he has a severe mouth abscess.He is now receiving treatment, along with care for ringworm, to help him feel better.

Layla’s recent vet bill came to over $300 and Wilson’s medical needs are adding to that total. These are expenses we never anticipated, but when a dog needs us, we don’t turn away.

We said YES to both of them. Now we’re asking you to help us keep that promise. ❤️

Rocky has never met a stranger… or a lap he didn’t want to climb into. ❤️

Meet Rocky! This 5-month-old, 25-pound boy is settling into foster life beautifully and quickly becoming everyone’s favorite cuddle buddy.

Rocky LOVES people, dogs, kisses, hugs, and making new friends. He is affectionate, playful, and happiest when he’s right by your side. 🐾

He’s also one smart cookie! 🧠 Rocky is making great progress with house training, has started pottying outside, and figured out his bedtime routine in just TWO nights. Now he happily tucks himself into bed and sleeps through the night! 🙌

Rocky currently lives with two cats. He’s eager to play with them, but his feline roommates aren’t quite as interested 😂. He’d likely be happiest as an only pet or with confident, dog-savvy cats.

5 months • 25 lbs • dog friendly • smart • affectionate • playful

KIWI is a sweet 5-month-old Lab mix who traveled all the way from Puerto Rico with her sister, Orchid, and is now ready to find her forever family 🇵🇷✈️🏡

Rosie is the kind of pup who makes everyone smile! 🥰 This 8-month-old, 28-lb Shepherd mix came from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 and is ready to find her forever family!

After some exercise, Rosie is perfectly content to curl up on the sofa or relax in her crate while you work, run errands, or tackle your to-do list. Give her a new bone and she’s one happy girl! 🦴❤️

🏡 Rosie is doing great with house training and would love a home with a yard or outdoor space where she can safely explore.
