Happy Earth Day 🌎! Although Earth Day is obviously every day, it’s always good to celebrate the things we hold dear a little more every now and then. This , go outside and plant something new, listen to your backyard wildlife, and look up ways to support more birdsong or more butterflies. Enjoy a walk in a park or at the beach, or even just around your neighborhood. Reconnect with the wild side of your nature!

As Mother Nature starts to reinvigorate herself all around us, so too is it our time to learn her lessons and re-energize the ways we feel home in her world. 🐣🌱

It is our great honor and pleasure to award Bobby Horvath, wildlife rehabilitator, our Environmentalist of the Year award! Bobby is the co-founder with his wife Cathy of WINORR, Wildlife in Need of Rescue and Rehabilitation, which is his non-profit that provides professional care for sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife. Bobby has been running this non-profit out of his Massapequa home for more than two decades, handling thousands of animals in need, including eagles, foxes, ospreys, owls, and more.

It takes a very special kind of person to care for those whose lives go unseen and unacknowledged at the risk of his own safety, and Bobby does it all based on donations, with little to gain in return. Thank you Bobby for all your hard work! 🦅

A disappointing decision was reached by the Suffolk County Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) to recommend a “negative declaration” on the county’s proposal to build a new dam at the site of Stump Pond in Blydenburgh County Park. A negative declaration means that there were no environmental impacts significant enough to warrant a full environmental impact statement/investigation into how a new dam would affect the environment. This costly reconstruction that would stop the flow of the Nissequogue River has been voted along to the Suffolk County Legislature without the necessary environmental assessment. The County is acting against the recommendation of the Department of Environmental Conservation, who strongly suggested a full environmental impact analysis. Join us in fighting for a more climate resilient future for Long Island.

Act now: Email or call your County legislators by using the link in our bio to have your voice heard. Urge them to pursue a full report on environmental effects, and educate them on the numerous benefits to keep the Nissequogue River flowing free.

The Sierra Club was in attendance at ’s Off Shore Wind rally, along with union members on Friday, to protest Trump’s newest stop-work orders. Over 600 people were in attendance! Some environmental groups (us, , ), some other elected officials and many union members.

It was empowering and good to be with people from both parties, united for renewable energy and jobs. But delaying renewable energy projects like offshore wind will increase the severity of climate change-related impacts to Long Island and has put thousands of union workers out of work. Please urge your Congress members to push back on Trumps anti-renewable agenda.♻️🌬️

📣 Use your voice to support the role of renewable energy in the NYS Energy Plan! 🌎💨⚡️

NYS recently released an updated draft energy plan, and public hearings are being held across the state to allow citizens the opportunity to publicly comment on the plan. Now is our chance to show that Long Islanders want a future with more clean, renewable, just energy, and less reliance on burning polluting, dirty fossils fuels. The next public hearing is at Stony Brook University on Monday, September 29 from 5PM-7PM. Arrive early for a 4PM Rally for Renewable Energy!

To make a public comment at the hearing, register here: https://nyserda.jotform.com/team/operations/SEPPublicHearingsRegistration

If you are not able to attend the in-person hearing, there is a virtual hearing on Tuesday, September 30, 5P-7P: https://nyserda.jotform.com/team/operations/SEPPublicHearingsRegistration
