This October, we are highlighting American Indian and Alaska Native people, and the prevalence of domestic violence in their communities. Because of limited data, there is no reliable nationwide count of how many Native women go missing or are murdered each year.

These statistics highlight the impact of domestic violence on American Indian and Alaska Native communities, while reminding us that many experiences of abuse may never be reported.

Domestic violence isn’t always physical. Economic abuse can include controlling a partner’s income, withholding money, creating debt, interfering with employment, or committing financial fraud. The impact can continue long after the abuse ends, making it harder for survivors to rebuild financial stability and independence.

Through our Vocational Advocacy Program, we provide services to help victims enhance their work skills to enter or re-enter the job market. VAP assists clients in identifying their employment goals and achieving long-term employment.
